Subject: | Re: Weight & Balance |
Well I goofed around a little with Excel and came up with a simplified
W&B spreadsheet based off the original from David.
Give it a test run and see if it works.
I did find that with our Commander, there are loading scenarios that
have us go too far forward in C.G with small quantities of fuel just
like Cmd Gordon said. I'll have to stop poking fun at our cameraman's
weight, because we apparently need the ballast. I did a couple test runs
with generic values of a Commander that doesn't have 300 pounds of gear
in the middle row, and it is harder to get a 500 out of sorts.
The sheet is generic enough to where it should be easily modified to fit
many models. The sheet is 'Protected' so the fumble-fingered among us
can't hurt it, but there is no password so anyone can modify the cells.
Just go up to Tools, Protection, to protect and unprotect sheet.
So enter you empty weight and C.G. in blue once.
Then just modify yellow cells. It should print out nice also......
For the spreadsheet challenged, I could enter stuff for you, but really,
it's easy. If you haven't messed with these things before, try it.
They're neat..... I'm just scratching the surface, so if any of you
fellows are better, go ahead and make this a better thing......
Hope the attachment makes it.

The attachment worked fine. This is a really nice sheet! I probably
wouldn't have built the graphics on my own, so I'm glad to have them.
Thanks for sharing it.......
I look forward to getting Gordon's work so I can rejigger it for our
use here.
Thanks guys,

Steve,
When I was at Inter Island Air, I developed an (almost) "one sheet
does all" Weight & Balance / Manifest/ Dispatch sheet for FAR 135
purposes.
It is not a spread sheet but the arms are there and one can do
simple math on the go -- and have the C.G. envelope tables right there.
I'm on a trip for a few days; when I get home I'll upload the
template for the 500 A/B/U/S.

Folks,
Before I go and reinvent the wheel, has anyone built a 500 series,
or Commander specific spreadsheet I can adapt?
If not, a good generic sheet would work just fine as a beginning
point. I'll compare the end results with numerous loading scenarios we
have calculated.

Dayton man lands plane on highway
THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
FOND DU LAC, Wis. - An Ohio man flying a World War II-era plane made an
emergency landing on a Wisconsin highway after experiencing engine
trouble,
snarling traffic for hours as authorities worked to move the aircraft.
No injuries were reported after the plane landed on U.S. Highway 41 near
Fond du Lac County Airport about 7:45 p.m. Sunday, authorities said.

William J. Leff, of Dayton, was flying a 1946 North American T-6G plane
with
his son to the Experimental Aircraft Association's AirVenture show in
Oshkosh when the engine problems arose, the Wisconsin State Patrol said
in a
statement.
The plane touched down momentarily and regained altitude, banking
briefly
before landing and coming to a stop in the northbound lanes, the
statement
said.
The right wing was damaged after it hit several highway signs.
The highway was closed for hours in both directions until authorities
managed to move the plane to the nearby airport.
