As some of you know I fly 777's for AA. I would like to clear up a few systems
and what I know from industry info.
The engines are believed to be running in flight idle but would not respond to
thrust demands from the pilots or the auto throttles. Therefore all flight
deck instruments would have been operating normal. I believe this to be correct
if the copilot continued to fly because if both engines had failed only the
captain would have a complete compliment of instrumentation to include ILS/GS.
On the 777 at dual engine failure but both windmilling they would have fairly
normal hydraulics. They would have all capt inst on bat back up for 30 minutes.
However in about 20 seconds after both main AC buses were dead they would
have continuous fight deck instruments on both sides from the RAT (ram air
turbine) power. They would also have very minimual hydraulic power from the RAT
but probably not need in this case assuming engine rotation well in to roll
out. But the APU would auto start when both AC buses went dead from their own
dedicated battery, that takes about one minute
for APU to come on line and at 600 ft it probably did not have time.
To summarize I believe they had all instruments and controls--PIEACE A CAKE:--)))

As always your measured "weigh-in" on world affairs is much appreciated.
Any idea which tee coincides with the threshold...
My only other concern is the drop in 'dress' standards of that particular golf
club...they were very strict when I played nine holes there in 1996!! Have you
any idea why these standards have decayed??

Let's see, $900,000 over five years at 5.9%, I can eat macaroni and
cheese....... No that's not going to work. Still about $850,000 short.

NO american muscle car is worth that much....and I'm a big fan of
american muscle. It's all Barrett Jackson that has inflated these prices
to meet their own ends thru aggressive marketing & auction coverage.
I also don't buy that something that spent 30 years in a barn doesn't
have critter infestation. Mice, anyone?
I'd pay $50k for it. I wonder what his reserve is?

I love it when we begrudge progress and use an anomaly to justify our
position. To me it's akin to arguing against turbines in favor or
round engines (and if ANYONE wants to do that, it's me!). If FBW was
inherently more problematic than older systems, do you really think
that nearly all modern aircraft designs would be designed with it?
No system is perfect, and everything is weighed by a risk/benefit
analysis. In the end, FBW is the best choice for many applications.
In as much as it can fail, just like any other system, is an
unfortunate but ultimately unavoidable situation.
I guess my point is, why do we complain about progress without
providing a better solution? In this case, I believe that it's
because one does not yet exist...
