Hawkins Sent: Thursday, July 31, 2008 3:21 AM Subject: Commander-List: Elevator Skin All- We had a bad wind storm here in Delaware a few months back and the top skin of my left elevator was slightly damaged near the outer leading edge. I've searched around for a skin and/or replacement elevator, but little luck - only skin I could find was rediculously priced. Complete new/salvage elevator was cheaper! PN for skin is: 5440000-216 PN for elevator assembly is: 5440000-401 Damage is minor - does FAA allow repairs to control surfaces these days, or do I need to replace? Is this top skin a standard aircraft section? Looks like the control surface material on Cessnas. If so, my A&P should be able to buy a stock sheet and replace? Any other ideas? WE PURCHASED AUTHENTIC (FACTORY DIRECT) SKIN FROM ROCKWELL . IT WAS HORIBLE, GROOVES WERE BADLY MISALIGNED. FINALLY MADE THE SKIN OURSELVE (PROBABLY ILLEAGLE) AND INSTALLED USING 337. NEVER A PROBLEM, BUT LOTS OF WORK.
