Hi Everyone, Anyone out there know the best place to get a Bendix PS7BD Carb rebuilt at anything less than the cost of an entire airplane? The quote I have so far is for around $3,500... Ouch!!! Any help will be greatly appreciated. Cate N4278S Aero Commander 680E

I had mine done at Precision Engines in Everett, WA for a reasonable amount of money (about $1500) a few years ago. They are more or less the OEM these days. -----Original Message----- From: owner-commander-list-server@matronics.com [mailto:owner-commander-list-server@matronics.com] On Behalf Of CATHERINE CHAGNOT Sent: Tuesday, February 24, 2009 8:44 AM Subject: Commander-List: Bendix PS7BD Pressure Carb Hi Everyone, Anyone out there know the best place to get a Bendix PS7BD Carb rebuilt at anything less than the cost of an entire airplane? Cate, I can't guarantee what the price will be, but I had a PS5 pressure carb rebuilt by a guy in OK that only cost me $869, which included replacing a diaphragm. Email off net for more details if you are interested. Cate, The price of the kits are unbelievable. The only place you can get them is from Precision Engines. They on the other hand offer an overhaul for less money than they sell the kits for. I would send it to them. Once they are done with the red diaphragms you should not have any grief out of them for many years. www.precisionengines.com/pages/carburetors.html They are complex pieces of kit. It took me at least a day per carb to strip and reassemble the set up on the fuel rig lasted about two days per carb. Setting them up is a painfully slow process. Each has about ten check points on the fuel curve. I got mine to within half a pound an hour fuel flow difference between them across the entire curve. These thing are truly precision instruments. There are not too many people around these days who even know what they look like, never mind knowing how to set them up. The other thing is they have a number of bodies, etc in case your carb has too much wear to ever dial in. Mine had that problem and they were able to provide a better (by no means perfect, but usable) throttle body from spares. Noone else is going to be able to do that. -----Original Message----- From: owner-commander-list-server@matronics.com [mailto:owner-commander-list-server@matronics.com] On Behalf Of Richard & Jacqui Thompson Sent: Tuesday, February 24, 2009 12:22 PM Subject: RE: Commander-List: Bendix PS7BD Pressure Carb Cate, The price of the kits are unbelievable. Thanks Guys, It's on its way to Precision Engines. They want about $2000 for a basic rebuild now. There's a 10% special on at the moment. Minimum then around $1800 It sure beats the $3500 quote I got earlier. It's a spare that came with the 2 core engines I tracked down for the plane. When it comes back I'll send out the one on the plane now and hopefully should be in good shape.
