Dear Listers,
Its November 30th and that means at least two things. For better or worse, its
my 47th birthday! But it also means that its that last official day of the
Matronics Email List Fund Raiser! If you been drooling over one of the really
nice gifts that are available this year with a qualifying Contribution, then
now is the time to jump on one!!
If you've been meaning to make a Contribution this month but have been putting
it off for some reason, NOW is the time!
I will be posting the List of Contributors in a few days, so you'll probably want
to be known as a person that supported the Lists!
I want to thank everyone that has so generously made a Contribution this year in
support of our Lists. It is your generosity that keeps this operation running
and I don't ever forget it. Hopefully everyone feels the same.
The List Contribution Web Site is fast and easy. Please support our habit by making
your Contribution right now:

Subject: | Commander photographic material |
Hi Gil & All,
I do indeed collect photos of Commanders!
My collection of prints, negatives and slides numbers just over 9,300.
All of the negatives have been scanned (approx. 2,300) and I=99m
in the process of scanning the color slides (approx. 2,200 scanned;
approx. 900 still to do).
Additionally, I have approx. 17,000 digital images, not including those
already mentioned.
Bert Berry also has a vast collection, which comprises over 10,000.
Included in our coverage are a number of unidentified Commanders that we
are unable to identify from shots that we have in our collections.
These include a good number of Commanders that have probably been
confiscated South of the Texas border and the aircraft s/n plates have,
in most cases, probably been removed.
The photographer was there unable to check the s/n, or was perhaps not
allowed to inspect the plate, if indeed it was a genuine factory
example.
Some shots enable us to at least identify the correct Model, thereby
narrowing down the list of possible candidates.
They also enable us to possibly note any modifications that have been
made over the years, thereby providing yet further clues.
Therefore, any shots received will always be extremely useful to us.
Even shots of active examples in the USA help, as they will at least
enable us to eliminate them as a =98suspect=99.
So, if anybody has any shots, albeit active, derelict, or whatever, then
*please* send them in.
They date and location are helpful items of info too, if known.
So, if you=99re visiting any new airports, taking a camera with
you in case any Commanders are around will be a good idea!
I cannot recommend a good paint shop, but I know there are guys on the
chatlist who can help.
Any shots of your 680, whether it=99s as N6220D, N96KY, N710TK or
N6819Q, will be very welcome as a quick check reveals that I=99ve
got no shots whatsoever of s/n 680-448-159!
My postal address is:

Thanks Gil!

Barry

Tylor,
Bert and I will be interested in any photos.
Why not submit them to Nico for either the Aero Commander website or the
Facebook page he's just created?
So long as we can download good-sized .jpg images, it should work just fine.

Berry,
I was in CA last week with Moe. We tried to move his 680FP back to NM but
weather stopped us.
I had to fly back on SWA.
I did stop in at 4 different airports.
I will post a gallery on line so you can see and down load them.

JB,
NO, I have not found a phone number to contact him.
I looked at 8468C that is sitting at French Valley, Ca for the last 5 years.
The oil has drained into the engine since there is no oil in the tanks.
I have a bunch of photos.

JimBob,
No images have been received of N6000N.
I do have a B&W image of it when it was with DEC Aviation Corp., way
back in 1962/3.
If Sue can forward them again, plus any of the 5 you ferried to the A&P
school, I=99ll be most grateful and I can then forward them to
Bert.
Which one of those was involved in the =9Cdeer-strike=9D ?

BARRY...........You should have the pix of N6000N, if not, let me know
and I will forward them again. Sue will send a pix of each of the 5
Commanders I took to the A&P school last year. They are in the slide
show we show each year at dinner, but I don't think I sent them to you,
sorry.
N6000N last flew about 12-2009 and was removed from service on Oct
12-2010. The remains of the airframe and paperwork were transferred to
Northeast Air (A Twin Commander service center) in Portland Maine.
Don't know why they wanted her????
There is a straight 680 rotting in Nampa Idaho (N985RA I think). It has
been grounded by the FAA and will likely never fly again. I shouldl be
there next week on a delivery and snap some pix and send them. XOXOXO
Love, jb

Barry,
If one gets close enough to the airframe, have a look at the serial number
tags on the major components, flaps, elevator, rudder and engine trusses.
The serial number of the aircraft is part of the part serial number. This is
how we indentified CAX for the issue of a new data plate.
Cheers
Richard
