The current owners bought it in May 2006, but seemingly not made much use of it! It was briefly owned by Gary Gadberry's Aircenter Inc in 1996 and the 'Shrike-Alike' mods were signed-off as being installed in June 1997. The winglets were shown as installed under STC SA1158GL, so I guess are genuine. See you left the door open on your Nissan Altima while you took the shots, so hope not too much of the 'airconned' air escaped ;-) Very Best Regards, Barry From: owner-commander-list-server@matronics.com [mailto:owner-commander-list-server@matronics.com] On Behalf Of Keith S. Gordon Sent: 19 April 2011 22:23 Subject: Commander-List: Commander Spotting - N234WM at KCOE Sir Barry, All, Was in Coer d' Alane, Idaho (KCOE) two weekends ago and took some pix. Used my GPS camera to again, I apologize for the quality. This looks to be a Gary Gadberry AC500A with most of his Shrike mods. From a distance I was thrown off balance by a Shrike looking Commander with two blade props! Sadly, this bird has not flown in quite a while. I make that deduction based on the condition of the tires and bungees. The winglettes look suspicious to me. They appear to be bootleg winglettes and not the AeroDyne product, but I may just be twitchy about that having seen bootlegs appear on Commanders before. Wing Commander Gordon Life is not simple anywhere. Probably less so elsewhere. As N252LD, it was owned by various parties domiciled in Anchorage, between April 1978 & March 1992. Just for fun, I Googled the N-number to see a bit of its history, and found that it had been "substantially damaged" in two separate fuel exhaustion accidents, the first on 8/4/68 in Kennard, TX, and the second on 1/6/77 in Kiowa, CO. Since the B&CA photo is a lot more recent than those two incidents, it would appear that N252LD "took a lickin' and kept on tickin'!" Bert Berry sent me several photos of it taken after the TX incident and two more of it after it had been repainted and reregistered to John Towner. The last photo he sent me was the very same photo as the one in the B&CA article! The air outside the car was cooler than the air inside. I was so glad to be out of the desert and in the fresh, cool, mountain ai r that I wanted to stuff as much of it as I could into my car -- and for the record, that is a rental. MY car is a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon. Glad that the winglettes are the genuine article. Wing Commander Gordon Life is not simple anywhere. Probably less so elsewhere.
