I had spent mos t of last week working with Morris K in Stockton. He has a huge amount of work (a good thing in this "Barack Hussein Obama" economy) and I was happy to help. When it was time to come home, it occurred to me that one of the airplane we were working on lived in the Seattle area and Washougal was on the way home. I flew home in Dave Phifer's gorgious 500B with the Merlyn 3 20HP turbo conversion. The airplane is just beautiful with new paint, inte rior, windows, avionics, everything. A cool thing happened on the way home. The weather was clear an a mill ion but I decided to take flight following to stay clear of the many fire T FRs. As I was handed off to Seattle Center, a bit north of K Falls, in the middle of nowhere, The controller advised me my traffic was at "nine o'clo ck and nine miles, a Baron converging, and my radar shows you WILL converge ". Well! She gave the Baron the same info and we began looking for each o ther. I picked him up at about seven miles separation and called it in. T he baron still did not see me. Finally the controller called us 4 miles an d converging. The Baron driver called, rather tersely, "Twin Commander, wh at is you ground speed?" "236 KTS" I relayed. After several second of sil ence I asked "Baron, what is YOUR ground speed?" no answer I wonder why!! . He finally saw me and we passed close enough for me to read his N number s. I called in the blind and just said, "imagine, we left from different p laces, at different times, and came this close". The controller came back and said we had passed each other "less than three tenths of a mile and les s than one hundred feet apart" Pretty close! Anyway, it was a great trip home in a great airplane! jb ________________________________ Message 2 _____________________________________ Time: 11:10:20 PM PST US From: "cybersuperstore" Subject: RE: Commander-List: NICE FLIGHT I posted it on our facebook page, if you don't mind, JB.
