Ken was aged 89 and had served in the Air Force between 1943 and 1946, as a crew chief and flight engineer on B24 bombers and Beech D-18's. He had worked for Beech before joining the Aero Design & Engineering Company at Bethany in 1951, as Assistant Chief Engineer. This was just a few months after the company had been formed, in October 1950. He worked for Aero Commander for the rest of his working days, before retiring as Director of Engineering in 1987. We were privileged to have Ken join us for the Dinner function when the Flight Group Fly-In was held in Oklahoma City in 2008. I realise that many of you will not recognise Ken's name, but his signature may well appear on some items of Factory paperwork, Manuals or Handbooks for your Commander. Some of the items he designed were incorporated into the first Commander Model, the 520, and stayed throughout the entire production range until the last Model built, the 695B. Best Regards, Barry Collman ________________________________ Message 2 _____________________________________ Time: 05:08:45 AM PST US Subject: Re: Commander-List: Sad News From: Russell Legg Hi Barry, Indeed very sad news. It was a great privilege to meet Ken in 2008 and then to subsequently kind of continue to communicate with him via yourself and others. Ken has left us with a legendary legacy and millions of hours of amazing flying. RIP Ken.
