Merry Christmas and a very prosperous 2017 to all Commander nuts. Merry Christmas to you and all in Commander Land, Keith S Gordon Sent on the fly =F0=9F=8C=90 -------- Original message -------- From: "Randy Dettmer, AIA" <rcdettmer@charter.net <mailto:rcdettmer@charter.net> > Subject: Commander-List: Flap Gap Seals Hello Commander Fans, Want to share a recent experience regarding flap gap seals. My 680F has flap gap seals top and bottom. On a recent flight, the right top inboard flap gap seal came loose, flew back and impacted the right horizontal stabilizer. The impact caused a 2=9D diameter gouge in the leading edge of the stabilizer along with other dents and scrapes. I was not aware of the damage until noticing the gouge while re-fueling the airplane. I was able to acquire a new replacement leading edge from Nick at AeroAir (Hillsboro, OR 503 640 3711). Gary Gadberry (Aircenter, Chattanooga, TN 423 893 5444) was able to provide a replacement flap gap seal. Turns out that the rivets failed on the flap gap seal and the seal just peeled away. If you have flap gap seals on your Commander, I encourage you to inspect the condition of the rivets regularly. We replaced several rivets on the other flap gap seals on the plane. Airplane was grounded for about 3 weeks for acquisition of parts and replacement. Happy and safe flying.
