I am also interested in learning more about this engine, since I will be installing it on my Rans S-16 in another year or so. I will tell you what I have learned, with the caution that I am not expert, just passing along my impressions: 1-Be careful with Warp Drive props with this engine. The Rans prototype S-16 experienced delamination problems with Warp Drive. Nothing wrong with the prop, per se, but apparently the power pulses of this engine were causing too much forward/backward stress on the blades. Rans switched to a Sensenich wood prop, which is more flexible in this regime, and the problem subsided. The S-16 is a 150-160 mph cruise airplane with this engine. May not be a problem with other type a/c. Check with prop folks for more/better information. 2-Some parts for the engine are reportedly more expensive than similar parts on other similar size engines. Could be because of low production, compared to O-200, O-235, etc. I also understand the cylinders and other parts are taken from the IO-360 (Continental) design. Again, a somewhat low-production engine. Can anyone verify this? 3-I am looking into the Mattituck non-certified version. Still expensive at about $19,000 vs. 24K for the certified version. Any other sources out there? 4-Not very many used IO-240's on the market. The only production aircraft using it that I know of are the Katana and the Liberty. Any others? 5-There is a reported hard-starting problem with the IO-240, which is rectified by installing either single or dual LightSpeed Engineering electronic ignition module(s). Any experience here? Good luck with your Kitfox. Again, my information is limited and may not be accurate. If anyone can add to it or correct it, I would be very appreciative. S-16 Builder

I looked into this engine as well for my BushCaddy R-120 (135 mph never exc eed). I ended up opting for a Lycoming O-235, primarily because the engine builder I had selected had only done a half dozen of the IO-240's and I ca n more than likely get my 110 mph cruise with the lower hp O-235. He indicated parts were somewhat hard to find and elli1409's email sort of reiterates this. My understanding is that the IO-240 is a good, reliable engine. I would definitely order through Mattituck as they have made lots of them and probably have a good availability of parts.
