Dear Listers,
I sat down at the 'ol computer tonight to have a look at a few of the nice comments
List Members have been including along with their Contributions this year.
I was amazed at how many I found and even more amazed at some of the very nice
things Listers have been saying about the Lists and how valuable the they
are to them.
I've included quite a few of these nice comments below. Please read over some
of this great Lister feedback. No doubt you will find that you agree with at
least one or two of those comments - maybe all of them! If you find that do,
won't you please make a Contribution to support these Lists today!! Its fast
and easy with the Matronics List Contribution Web Site:
http://www.matronics.com/contribution
Don't forget that I've now fully implemented the new *List Fund Raiser Squelch*
feature that will automatically intercept any future iterations of my "Please
Contribute" messages -- that is, *once you've made YOUR Contribution*! How cool
is that? (Make sure the email address you enter along with your Contribution
matches exactly your subscribed List email address. An exact match is how
it works.)
Thank you for your generous Contributions this year and for all the wonderful comments!!

I have a Kitfox (Skystar) Vixen Series 5 with the Continental I0-240. The engine
was new and now has 275 hours. The prop is a Warp Drive 70" 3 blade. This
past weekend I found cracks on two of the prop collars--close to the hub. Spoke
with Warp and was told they would not cover the prop because of the "sharp
impulse" the engine has. I've ordered an Ivo 2 blade Magnum in-flight adjustable.
I've had no starting problems with the engine. Just the usual hot start issues
because of the fuel injection.

I also have a Kitfox Vixen (Series 5) with the Conti I0-240. This past weekend
I found two cracked blades (near the hub). I can't (and neither will Warp Drive)
recommend their prop for the 240. The engine has a very sharp impulse and
basically just jerks the prop apart (only while starting, stopping and idling
below 1100). I have ordered an IVO Magnum...today! We'll see what happens.

Subject: | Warp Drive Prop Cracked (Continental Engine) |
Hello,
I have a Series 5 Vixen with a Continental I0-240 (125HP, fuel injected) engine.
Prop is a Warp Drive 70", 3 blade taper-tipped, nickle leading edge). Total
time is 260 hours. This past weekend (during an out of state trip) I found a crack
in one of the collars near the hub. After removal of the prop we found a
second blade with a simular crack. Warp Drive will not cover becuase of the "high
impulse" engine. This was the recommended prop...way back when... According
to Warp I could purchase two new blades! This was really not what I wanted to
hear. [Crying or Very sad]
My Warp system is now useless. Please understand that I am not knocking Warp Drive.
I have flown 1500+ hours behind (and in front of) their product. It's just
the combination of a high (sharp) impulse engine and their non-flexing, lightweight
prop set-up. At this point I can NOT recommend using Warp with this particular
engine. ...I'm not sure about other Continental/Lycoming engines???
Today I ordered a 70" two blade Ivoprop Magnum propeller. It will have the in-flight
adjustable option. I look forward to seeing how this works out. I would
appreciate any input regarding this problem...and also my choice in replacement
propeller. If anyone is interested I could take some pictures of the cracked
collars. Let me know. Thanks!
:D

What is it that makes this Continental: "a high (sharp) impulse engine"? A
difinition would help.

Subject: | Re: Warp Drive Prop Cracked (Continental Engine) |
Randy,
That is certainly not my area of knowledge... however, an engine with a high or
sharp impulse can (not always) be associated with a high compression engine
that is usually lightly loaded. In the case of the light weight prop, there is
not enough initeria to carry the crankshaft to the next firing cyliner...so
there is a very slight drop (very small!) in RPM. The cylinder fires and causes
a sharp impulse. If the prop has more rotating mass this is not an issue.
My understanding is that the damage only occurs during start-up, shut-down and
idling below 1100 RPM.
I'm sure we've got members that may better explain the impulse question. Thanks!
