I believe Dan is the first to fly one. He has about 20 hours on it I think. I think Roy's design is the one I like the best so far. I haven't seen Williams up close yet, but it looks interesting too. I have one in mind that I want to try, we'll see how that turns out. With 2, I figure I will end up with one good one. LOL!! My problem is that both are froze up. After taking the top cover off of both, one looks pretty clean, just has a lot of rust in the cylinders. The other has some rust in the crank area, but not to much. The heads and cylinders are really on there. What have people used to deal with this kind of rust. I can't get to all the connecting rod bolts without turning the engine. Any help would be great. Also, I want to remove the studs from the case. How are people doing this. Mystery oil seems to be the best I've tried but I think just getting oil to the frozen parts is what helped the most. Just be patient and don't force anything. I have wanted to try just soaking it in kerosene in the tub I bought but haven't had any more engines to try it on. I'm sure there are 100 ways to do it so everyone chime in. A Google search on "electrical rust removal" or "Electrolytic rust removal" should produce some results. Jeff, you might want to try this too because it is quicker than just soaking them. This method is supposed to break down the rust into a slippery mud and then it just rinses off. I haven't had the need to try it yet but I have heard it works great. It's worth a shot. It is pretty nasty. Can this be disassembled and bead blasted, or what is the best way to clean it up. Does anyone know where to buy the parts for the pump. I want to clean this up and get this part of it done. Thanks for the help. I think this list is going to be great for the builder like me who just picked up their core engines. A good soak will leave you with a fairly clean part. After that you should wash the part in water and some sort of detergent. this will wash away the dirt and other water based stuff. The Dishwasher is great for this and will also tell you of how tolerant your wife is going to be for the rest of the project. :D After that all you need is an oil pump rebuild kit. one things you might want to consider before you reassemble it would be weather you want to run a rear alternator, or not. If you want a rear alternator you should have the case modified before reassembly. There are choices at every turn so go slow and do your research. Are you going to do a front starter or a rear starter? Also you can try Delta Cams, they will grind you anything you want. If you can find one let me know and I will try to track one down. You can have your cam reground if the core is in good shape. It is so rusted, I cannot remove any bolts to get to the oil pump gears. If I do, they will break. This is a bad case to begin with. I made 2 electrodes and connected them with a pair of jumper cables. I then made up 3 gallons of water and baking soda. I put everything in a plastic bucket and hooked up a battery charger to it. I connected the red lead from the battery charger to the 2 electrodes in the water. These 2 electrodes are not touching the part that is being cleaned. I then hooked the negative terminal from the battery charger to the part itself. I then plugged in the charger. I confirmed that I had a current through the 2 electrodes to the negative post on the part. I had a current! After a few minutes, I had a bubble action starting to come from the part. A few minutes later, I began seeing rust floating on top of the water. It is really starting to bubble and this may work! The web site I was on said that you can not over clean the part and that it will not do anything to the metal, so since this is a bad case, I am going to leave it in all night and see what it looks like in the morning. If this works, I am going to buy a tub to put my whole engine in and get it rust free and hopefully unfrozen, so I can disassemble it. We will see. I will keep you updated on this.
