Great information Ron! I also had lean engine damage at less than 60 hours. After
discussions with Russ at D&G, he opened my nozzle 10%. Now I am wondering
if we should have gone a little more. I have talked to others that have discovered
lean damage when they thought everything was okay. Roy has his dynamometer
almost ready and plans to do some carb testing on this issue. I did not
have a good set up on my EGTs (too far down on the pipes). That has been corrected
and I plan to pay a little more attention to the readings.

EGTs can be deceptive, because sometimes it is hard to tell if it is cool b
ecause you have to much air or to much fuel.=0A=0AHere is something that yo
u might not know:- You can get a guage that will tell you exactly what yo
ur AFR is for less than $200=0A=0Ahttp://www.summitracing.com/parts/avm-30-
2310/overview/=0A=0AUse it to set your mixture, then sell it on eBay- (or
, hold onto it for periodic checks).- A simple multimeter makes a fine ga
uge, if your willing to use a look-up table to convert voltage readings to
mixture values.- Yes, the lead in 100LL WILL desensitize the sensor, but
the symptoms of that are that the gauge response slows down.- After using
leaded fuel for a while, it will take tenths of seconds for the gauge to r
espond with the correct value, instead of milli- or even micro- seconds tha
t the engine computer needs.- The time difference renders the sensor usel
ess as feedback for electronically controlling an engine, but you can't rea
d the gauge fast enough for it to make a difference in this use.- Compare
that $200 to the cost and hassle of a new set of valves.=0A=0APS:- Weld
the sensor bung near one end of a 12" piece of pipe that will seal over you
exhaust outlet, with the bung nearest the exhaust.- Make some adapters f
or various size exhaust outlets.- Now you have a portable system useful f
