My home theater is 7 channels @ 100W plus a 400W powered subwoofer... powered at 110v, filling a 35x20 room. It can get pretty loud. 4ga wire in a car, wow! Sine cars don't even connect the starter with that kind of juice. 75 amps is probably more than your alternator can produce. Do you get a voltage drop? Douglas L. Also, not shown is an 80gb Phatbox MP3 player which I added about a year later... ;-) It intergrates right into the Sony C90 system and just looks like another CD changer with about 1500 CDs. There's 900+ watts total power. That's roughly 75 amps at full tilt. It can go pretty loud... Best part though, is the clarity is perfect even at ear-bleed... With all this new electronic gear, it never really turns-off, so I have enough trickle current drain with all the various componets that I have to keep an external charger on the battery if I don't drive it about once a week. The coolest part I think is that from the outside, no body can even really tell there is that much gear stashed inside. Well, unless I have the volume turned up... :-) Matt At 06:46 PM 1/6/2007 Saturday, you wrote: > >Sheesh... 350 HP rolling jukebox? Nice car Pete! A lot of people don't realize that 4-speeds in 1979 were quite rare. Well, the reality is that its pretty rare to be cranking it so loud to need all 900 watts. :-) The stock C6 alternator is good to about 110 amps. That added to the current reserve in the Optima Yellow Top plus the two 1 Farad caps the voltage levels hold up pretty well. Definitely can't run it for very long at high volumes without the engine running. At idle at night with the headlights on and high volume, you can see the headlights dim a little with the bass notes. The other thing that is good about running really large voltage supply wires is that you minimize the chances of getting alternator whine in the system. Since I brought both + and ground back from the battery, and the whole system is isolated from the chassis of the car, there is zero noise from the alternator.
