I=92m not sure I understand your question. If you are asking why laminate,
there are a couple of reasons:

1. Laminated struts tend to be a bit stiffer than a solid piece of wood sin
ce the grains do not run exactly parallel from one lamina to the next

2. Laminated struts are not as likely to split as the crack stops when it
reaches the lamination

3. Laminated struts off the ability to hollow out the middle to save weigh
t or allow a chase to run wiring or hydraulic lines. For example, I lamina
ted the spruce landing gear struts on my Pietenpol. I used a router to ho
llow out a groove in the two middle laminations that allowed me to run my h
ydraulic brake lines INSIDE the strut (see picture below)

4. Laminating allows you to make curved parts such as the bows that support
the metal around the cockpits, as shown below:

Or the curved cutout in the centersection (if you don=92t use a flop):

So my question is, why would you NOT want to make laminations? They are st
rong, they are very stiff, they are light and they are fun to make. What
=92s not to like?

You may also save wood and get almost any dimension (especially length) of
planks.
