    --> Engines-List message posted by: Scott Bilinski <bilinski@kyocera-wireless.com> Just a heads up on Franklins. Their compression ratio is very high (10.5:1 or was it 10:1) and if they ever lower AVGAS octane Franklins will be in a world of hurt. I noticed they removed the compression ratio from their web site, now why would they do that???????? Anybody know anything about the Franklin combusion chamber and its resistance to detonation, vis-a-vis a Lycoming? Does it really have less detonation margin, or have they been forced to remove the compression ratio information from their web site because so many customers think 10.5:1 in one engine is the same as 10.5:1 in another engine? --> Engines-List message posted by: Scott Bilinski <bilinski@kyocera-wireless.com> This is a good point, combustion chamber shape makes a big difference. BUT, I am willing to bet that the combustion chamber technology used is the same technology used when the engine was first produced.....How long ago was that 40~50 years? It is pretty much a given (unfortunately) that aircraft recip engine builders dont upgrade there designs regularly if ever. --> Engines-List message posted by: "flyseaplane" <flyseaplane@netzero.net> ??Any information about the availability of the PZL Franklin engines?? Well, the PZL engines are certified and are now made in Poland. Availability in the USA is good. They have a lot of power for pretty reasonable weight. They won't tolerate auto gas - - unless you employed some type of water injection to quench detonation. I tried to get a new 116 HP, 235 running right but never did. It had a brand new carb on it from Precision Airmotive. It always ran really rich. I have since moved and am not around it anymore. It sure seemed like it had tons and tons of power. It has the same mount as a Cont O-200 - - - I would like to put one in a Cessna 150 and watch it stand on the prop. It felt a lot more powerful than a Lycoming 235, like in a Cessna 152.

    --> Engines-List message posted by: "kc" <samdacat@elp.rr.com> That's where this started. I called to order an engine and was told that due to a recent acquisition of PZL by Pratt & Whitney, no engines were available for at least the next several months.............sounded like maybe never. ----- Original Message ----- From: "KIM R JOHNSON" <krjloco@msn.com> Subject: Re: Engines-List: Re: Engines-List Digest: 0 Msgs - 05/22/03 > --> Engines-List message posted by: "KIM R JOHNSON" <krjloco@msn.com> > > KC, > Check out franklinengines.com/ > Kim > > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "kc" <samdacat@elp.rr.com> > To: <engines-list@matronics.com> > Subject: Engines-List: Re: Engines-List Digest: 0 Msgs - 05/22/03 > > > > --> Engines-List message posted by: "kc" <samdacat@elp.rr.com> > > > > ??Any information about the availability of the PLZ Franklin engines?? > > > > ----- Original Message ----- > > From: "Engines-List Digest Server" <engines-list-digest@matronics.com> > > To: "Engines-List Digest List" <engines-list-digest@matronics.com> > > Subject: Engines-List Digest: 0 Msgs - 05/22/03 > > > > > > > * > > > > > > ================================================== > > > Online Versions of Today's List Digest Archive > > > ================================================== > > > > > > Today's complete Engines-List Digest can be also be found in either > > > of the two Web Links listed below.
