Product liability versus practical application effects each of us. (Perhaps personal liability prevents discourse.) In an ideal world (where I am wealthy), of course a new crankshaft is the only way to go. Flying has inherant risk. Minimizing those risks is the pilots' (and mechanics') duties. Having a powerplant in the best possible condition makes sense. But, does non-compliance with the mandatory service bulletin 505B warrant automatic crankshaft replacement? I wonder. We are fortunate the Experimental category allows lattitude in these decisions. Perhaps the "certified" aircraft owner would be asking these same questions if the choice was not already made for him by the FARs. Rabaut" Hi Guys & Gals, I've got a nice Lycoming O-320 D1A, 200 hours TTSN (total time since new), with factory carb, mags, and more... asking $16-k to a good home, I'm located in Coalinga California (middle of the state), I can't seem to get anyone in this state, everyone who's interested is from "out-of-state".
