The dipstick shows that it has 5 quarts in it. No oil has yet circulated
through the oil lines or filter. This core when received did not have a
dipstick or tube, I ordered a new tube #75767 from an engine shop. It is
approx. 11 1/2" from tip of tube to engine base. The dipstick was a used
one from (supposedly) an O360A1A 8 quart system (it is imprinted "8" on
top). I don't know if I have the wrong dipstick or tube, any suggestions?

On that engine, if you install all 8 quarts, it will push at least one
quart out through the breather, and with that amount of oil being
thrown around due to elevated amounts, exposes greater volumes
to the rings, which will burn more off.
As far as oil pressure buildup through the lines, always fill the filter
with oil, and allow it to absorb close to a quart. The Oil pump gears
should be packed with molybdenum disulfide, or a good grade of
assembly lubricant. In this way, the pump will instantly begin suction
and pressure. With the filter already primed, there is no delay in
waiting for that to fill prior to pressurizing the rest of the system.
