Just curious. Have you looked into a Crossflow CF6-33 series engine. It
offers 350 hp.

<<I never heard of that. Do you have any more info?>>
The combination of a free-piston engine as a gas generator combined with a
turbine for shaft power extraction was, as best I recall, a project of GM
Research in the early or mid 60's. That's about all I know about it.

Perhaps, don't know for how long though.
A russian M14P would sure look good, sound good and deliver the power reliably.

Maybe I missed part of the message......?
What is a "Murphy Moose?" Does it require a radial/horizontally opposed/ or
inline????

List. The most important decision a builder must make is their choice of
Kit. I have already made that choice as I have a RV-9A kit ready to make
the powerplant choice. The second most inportant decision is that of
making a powerplant choice. I want to build a very light RV-9A so I am
looking for info on other flying RV-9A with various engines.
The format I am requesting is as follows;
Please tell me your empty weight (FAA definition) of finished airplane.
Include if you will the weights on each wheel.
Please tell me your engine choice with complete designation of engine i.e.
Lycoming 0-320 E2D!
Please tell me the speed performance at pressure altitude of 8,000 feet and
75% power if you can get it!
Any other info that you feel important or interesting to help make the
choice.
Anyone have a flying RV-9A sporting the Eggenfellner 2.5 Subie? If so how
does it perform?
Thank you-all very much for helping out.

The murphy moose is a 4 place all aluminum high wing plane. It was designed
to use the M14 russian radial. I just want to look at all the options. Thanks,
Brad

Maybe you should look at the Crossflow CF4-20T if you haven't already.

I checked out the crossflow engines. 41K is a bit much. I can go with the M14
for about 16K so I don't want to spend ALOT more than that. The chevy LS1 is
my first choice but I have to see how that plays out. There are a few guys
getting started on that engine for my model plane. I am still working on the tail
kit so I have a long time to figure it out. Thanks, Brad

Tracy,
Does this mean you decided to go with the Renesis instead of the 3-chamber
rotary in your RV-8?
Terry
It will take some time for Mazda to fill the supply line but yes, the engine
will be available. Mechanic's net price is something like $5800. I'm
having Bruce Turrentine build me one from parts now. Engine - Turbo
matching appears to be as much art as science. Lots of turbo work going on
for automotive & marine applications but you have the chance to be first on
the aircraft turbo application of the Renesis.

I think a Chevy V8 would be ideal - this is the aircraft for that engine.
I believe quite a few agri planes use V8 auto conversions.?
Some RV' s use Chevy V6's but I haven't heard much from them lately.

To see a very "clean" Chevy V6 installation, go to:
www.beltedair.com
I've flown in and next to this plane, the psru is available for V8's as
well.
