Stands for "Torpedo, Blast, Output" per NavSpOpGd&Spec 125.225.32551.023a

let's see, pay a little closer attention here. we were talking about the
dyna-cam engine. I don't give a damn about torpedos. The interest is in
engines for aircraft.
For the gentleman that defended the Dyna-Cam engine
What was the horsepower of the engine used?
What was it's Time-Between-Overhauls? TBO.
If, on the other hand, the Navy used the Dyna-Cam as a one shot deal, and
didn't care if it ran more than a few minutes, we're back to the justification
as
to why the dyna-cam is still a wet dream for someone and not a real
alternative for Lycomings or Continentals. Seems to me there are a lot more Mazda
rotories flying than dyan-cams could ever hope for.

I'm at that advanced age where I find that difficult. :-)

Which is the case, and is what triggered my comment. Of course, my
memory from all those years ago could well be incorrect.

The dyna-Cam engine was run by compressed air to propeller Navy Torpedos.

Well, thats what I thought. And why I questioned available background
info on TBO when it was used for torpedos, very few of which are
expected to make it to TBO. After I got instructed to pay closer
attention, I figured I must be missing something.

Not that I give a lot of weight to 'gumnt' endorsements, but the engine
*was* certificated for a/c use.

This is an invitation to participate in rotary engine discussions at Sun 'n Fun
2004.
Where: Rotary engine forum tent
(This is to the left as you enter the show grounds through the MAIN ENTRANCE gate.
Look for the large white tents set up on both sides of the sidewalk. There
will be a ROTARY ENGINE banner hooked over the table inside the tent or maybe
outside the tent.)
When: Tuesday, April 13th; and Saturday, April 17th [12:30PM - 1:30 PM on both
days]
Purpose:
- Meet builders who have already installed the Mazda rotary engine in their aircraft.
- Meet other builders who are considering or planning to install the rotary engine
in their aircraft.
- Vet subsystem alternatives.
- Establish a builder's network for those new to rotary-auto-conversion.
Organizer: John Burns: jgburns@comcast.net
Resident Expert: Tracy Crook (as usual, Tracy and Laura Crook will bring engine
parts, accessories, flip charts and videos)
Please let me know if and when you plan to participate (reply to me, not the list
please).
Thanks,
John

P.S.
If you're interested in why I'm doing this, read on:
I think the Mazda rotary engine is an excellent power-plant alternative, and I
plan to install the Renesis model in my RV-7A. It's a task that warrants input
if not mentoring. While I'm comfortable with the engine decision, accessory
and subsystem decisions concern me.
Here's what I'm thinking:
- The news groups are great, but nothing beats meeting possible mentors and other
rotary builders face-to-face.
- It's a high-risk undertaking for inexperienced builders; the probability of implementing
a reliable rotary conversion goes up with a support network.
- Sub-system trade-offs need to be made: Builders who are inexperienced with rotary-auto-conversions
should benefit from discussions about cooling, exhaust systems,
engine mounting, PSRUs, ignition/fuel-injection control, intake manifolds
...
- It would be good (for moral support) to meet other builders who plan to install
a Mazda rotary conversion in their aircraft.
