      Thanks for all the replies on my Volvo diesel problems.  Most were directed
      at the same possibility, and that was also what we looked at.  What we
      missed was looking at ALL the possible reasons for a restricted fuel flow or
      air entrapment.  Turned out that the fuel shut-off valve at the tank had
      plastic pieces jammed in it that occasionally blocked the flow.  I took
      apart virtually everything in the fuel system.  Operative word is
      "virtually."  Why I didn't keep going until everything had been inspected
      must have been due to a character flaw.  Oh, well, everything is good now!
