Just wanted to let you all know just prior to all this engine was running very strong has done so for as long as I have owned the plane. Flew Thursday night did some acro and on the way back is when I noticed the high egt. I immediately powered down and was only a few miles from the airport so my only real choice was to proceed on. I landed and that night I pulled the plugs and they looked OK so I cleaned them and tried again Friday. As before the EGT went through the roof as I powered up and was missing and popping. So I pulled the distribution manifold and all was fine there pulled the injectors and no clogging there. Checked fuel flow from the fuel pump, no problems there, checked timing and right at 25 degrees. I then pulled servo no dirt at all; all valves, diaphragms and seals in good shape. All I can figure is one of two things; I went into a steep prolonged dive with the throttle closed possible creating too much pressure on the velocity compensating diaphragm and it stuck a little closed, basically guessing. Or I do in fact have a bad EGT, but with the missing and popping though could be a coincidence is unlikely in my opinion. One comment asked when idling if I lean does the RPM go up a little and yes that has always been true and is true now, it's only after I advance the throttle and when I start getting into the 50 percent power does the egt really start going up. Thanks for all your help and comments, all good! Let me know what you all think. A sticking exhaust valve will make the EGT temps go up and the engine will miss. The have enough tension between the halves to work @ idle, but misfire above a fast idle. Guess where the CHT's go. Just a thought-----Wes
