There are a few special tools that you cant do with out. also with this special wrench you will be able to torque the base nuts correctly when you put it back together. TldrgrDan A&P CFII Purchase two cylinder head wrenches, one in 3/4" and the other in 9/16". If you do any work on small Contnentals, you should also get one in 1/2". You can get them from Aircraft Spruce, Wag-Aero, etc. JimC --------------------------------- ________________________________ Message 2 _____________________________________ Time: 02:51:38 AM PST US From: Daniel Tappan Subject: Re: Engines-List: 0320-E2D Cylinder Nuts --> Engines-List message posted by: Daniel Tappan Randy: I've never done an O-320, but I pulled the cylinders off an O-235 using a crowfoot wrench. Hey guys.. a crows foot wrench may work BUT it only contacts two flats on a nut that is very hard to get at. The cylinder base wrench looks like a stretched and bent flare fitting wrench guaranteed to save you much cussing. TldrgrDan --------------------------------- Y! Messenger - Communicate in real time. I have tried sockets, swivel sockets, open-end and box-end wrenchs, but still cannot get squarely on the nuts. Is there a special tool out there for this, or am I just overlooking something. Randy The special wrenches that are commonly used are called cylinder base wrenches. You will need 2 different sizes. They use a 1/2" square drive. The size for the large nuts is 3/4" as I recall. They are available from several places that sell aircraft tools.
