Standard torque for a 1/2" -20 bolt is 480-690 inch pounds. Can someone confirm that to convert inch pounds to foot pounds you simply divide by 12? I get 40-57 foot lbs. Thanks, Jim ________________________________ Message 2 _____________________________________ Time: 07:59:06 PM PST US pounds Subject: Re: Engines-List: Torque conversion from inch pounds to foot pounds From: Steven Fingerhut --> Engines-List message posted by: Steven Fingerhut Jim, You are correct. Subject: Re: Engines-List: Torque conversion from inch pounds to foot pounds --> Engines-List message posted by: "Martini Luc J.R." You figured it out! Torque is measured as the PRODUCT of Distance (inches) X Force applied (Inches or Pounds of pressure), indeed, there are 12 inches per pound, so your correct that by DEVIDING the POUNDS in that equation by 12, you get FEET, thus the product becomes FOOT -POUNDS. In the metric system they use Meters X Kilograms. which I believe they call NEWTONS.
