I am building a Zenith CH-801. I am trying to decide on whether to get a 540,
6 cylinder, or an O-360, 4 cylinder) and/or an injected version (IO). Anyone
have any thoughts and what the tadeoff factors are.

I would take a hard look at ZAC's recommendation: not more than 440 lbs
firewall forward. Their O-360 and wood prop is about 400 lbs. People
who have installed Franklin engines have had to put 20+ lbs of lead in
the tail to balance the engine, which is IMHO, unacceptable. I settled
on an O-360 for my CH-801 for that reason. I really wanted 200 hp, but
gave up because of the weight limitation. (If the Deltahawk diesel had
come in at the projected price of 19,000 instead of $29,500, that's
where I'd be.)

I spent some time with the people at Mistral at OSH.
They (unfortunately for some of us), are emphasizing certification.
As I recall, the uncertified version will cost as much as a new
comparable Cont or Lyc.
I was impressed with what they have accomplished thus far,
but the cost will be prohibitive to most.
