--> Engines-List message posted by: Speedy11@aol.com In a message dated 3/5/2005 2:57:47 A.M. Eastern Standard Time, engines-list-digest@matronics.com writes: My dad also had his own version... when he too was apalled by some peoples actions, or practices ... "the guy has a 100HP engine, and a 10 HP brain". Jerry (and Monty), I probably reacted too quickly and too emotionally to Monty's post. I'm sure Monty is right in many cases. I, too, have seen airplanes that I would not fly in and I wondered why the builder did such a poor job of building. However, Monty's statement was that some people should not be allowed to build experimental airplanes or engines. I could extend that statement and say, "Some people should not be allowed to reproduce" or "Some people should not be allowed to possess a gun" or "Some people shouldn't be allowed to dress like THAT." All of those statements may have validity, but then the question becomes, "WHO should not be allowed to ...?" Who is to decide who can or cannot do a particular thing. I am of the opinion that the daunting task of building an experimental airplane weeds out most of the "Who should not" people. There are a few who will try to build anyway - usually trying to do it on the cheap - and they will build a poor quality (read dangerous) aircraft. I submit that there are also some engine builders that "should not be allowed to." My apology to Monty Barrett. I've heard nothing but good things about his business. As a matter of fact, BPA has always been number one on my list of potential sources. He is based in Tulsa (good people there) and has a strong reputation in aviation, especially among aerobatic performers. Perhaps there are people who shouldn't be allowed to use a computer and make comments on this list. Maybe I'm one of them. Who's to decide?
