The reading on the user groups indicated that the results on the 0-360 were not as impressive as on the 0-320. I spoke to an engineer at Powerflow who relayed that cam issues were more influential on the 360 than the 320, that factory tolerances were pretty wide and a lopsided one won't give the best scavenging effect. I plan to talk to them some more as I get close to my rebuild, but I wanted to get as much info on my own beforehand. So, my thoughts were to find the Lycoming specs and tolerances and discuss with the engineer "where" in the tolerance the cam should be. From my youth I know that advance/retard/lobe separation/ramp profile all can have quite an effect on power, even if the "lift" is the same. From my reading on owner produced parts, I believe I can legally spec a cam and so long as it is within Lycoming's tolerances it will be legal. ......airboat,....of course..... how do I find out what Lycoming's tolerances are? thanks again, skip simpson ________________________________ Message 3 _____________________________________ Time: 06:24:36 AM PST US From: "Archie" Subject: Re: Engines-List: Re: owner produced parts-camshaft? --> Engines-List message posted by: "Archie" Not enough info. Need acceleration/deceleration ramp info, lobe separation, etc. I no longer have a cam grinder, and have no access to blank shafts. Usually send that out to a couple of racing cam people. (who shall remain nameless) If this is to be used at high altitudes, a bit more intake lift will help. If it is a certificated engine, and you are concerned about authenticity, a few of the AC grinders may be able to help. ================================== ----- Original Message ----- From: "Danny Lawhon" Subject: Re: Engines-List: Re: owner produced parts-camshaft? > --> Engines-List message posted by: Danny Lawhon > > Archie, I have some old cam spec's that I would like > to have ground, Its an old stock grind of lycoming but > > they don't make any more.. these are the spec's > > Base Circle diameter.
