I am currently rebuilding a Lycoming IO-540(balancing, porting, cool air
induction, electronic ignition, and 10:1 pistons). I am planning to
install this engine with a facility to pre-oil the engine before
startup, but have been lead to believe that this is only a small part of
the solution. To save the cam and lifters, it is essential to build in
an oil galley to supply pre-start oil to the cam lobes.
I believe that we have determined how to do this, but am interested in
some experience with this. I would like to hear from anyone with plans
for a cam oiler galley or with experience in using one.
