      Question:

Does anyone know just exactly how far the vern a therm ( by pass valve )
is supposed to stretch when at temperature?

We have an oil temp problem and the by pass valve was replaced. ( ECI
PMA replacement part ) . It did not solve the problem. Looking at the
NEW part there was NO wear mark at all on the seating face of the valve.
Placing it into a cup of boiling water it grew 0.107 from the ambient
length. I also measured another ( old Lycoming part ) it grew 0.180

Also when I look at the ECI part in the oil filter adapter housing , it
sits deeper than the Lycoming part. ( It appears that the ECI part would
need to "grow" over 1/4 inch to make contact compared to maybe 1/16 to
1/8 inch on the Lycoming part.

      Thanks,
      Walt
