I don't think the CAA are too concerned about the font style if it is easily
read. The more difficult decision is the font size. The stipulated legal
size is too big for the Europa fuselage as the letters curve around the top
making them less legible. I sent them a letter and obtained approval for a
smaller letter size. To make my point I taped letters on the side of the
fuselage in both my intended size and the legal size and took photos. They
sent me a letter of approval without any problem. I see other Europas with
even smaller registration letters. Whether they have approval I don't know
but I did not want to risk having to repaint just because I hadn't got CAA
approval.

Thank you very much.

That is unlikely to happen. The Forum list has been dismantled by Avnet (and a
simple mail lister hung on the addresses concerned so that I can catch stray
traffic).
This is now the place for Europa conversations.

I am planning the decoration & (UK) marking of my tri gear G-RIXS. I
note from various pic's & what I have seen that the CAA rules on reg
marking are not always followed pedantically. Just how much leeway can
I take? Can I use italics, non standard fonts etc? What feedback have
any members who have not stuck exactly to the 'letter of the law'?

All the details are in CAP 523 available at

John;
I, like Jim Nelson, installed the S-9 Mac servo in the port aileron, and its
been worth every dime I spent on it.
I have pictures of the installation, and will be happy to share them with you
if you decide to go this route.

The CAA had a crackdown about ten years ago at Cranfield and, I understand,
quite a few owners then received correspondence from the CAA.
I'm not sure that the CAA are mandated to dish out dispensations for
complying with Statute, in the event that you claim that you can't comply;
others who are legally qualified could advise on this.
There are numerous Europas around with legal-size fuselage markings (mine
included). So that sets the precedence, at least for the more simple
arrangements of letters.

February in the UK. How the hell can it be, when I haven't seen a single
flying insect since last September that TWO mosquitoes got stuck in the top
coat of paint on my fuse this evening!!!!
I ended up taking my engine off and constructing a 'spit' to help with the
painting of the fuse. Worked a treat.
Has anyone come up with a way of supporting the wings by the spars in a
similar way which enables them to be turned over whilst being painted so
that both sides can be done in one operation?
Richard Iddon G-RIXS. (Can't wait 'til morning to go back in the workshop
to look at my gleaming fuselage!!)

Richard,
I have just the item you need in my garage. If you are somewhere near
Scunthorpe, by all means come and get it.

That's a good answer for Richard, but how about telling the rest of us what
you bought, or designed and built?
Best regards,

I am planning on taking a commercial flight to either Knoxville or
Nashville then traveling to Cookeville to cheeck out the area for a few
days to see if I want to pursue obtaining employment there at a
manufacturing plant of the company I presently work for . (Life in the big
city has been wearing pretty thin on me since the last million or so people
have moved into town). From there I am planning on taking the rent a car
to Sun and Fun on Tuesday April 1 for a liesurely ride down south. I will
be camping in my tent at the event. Will stay to catch the Europa get
together on Friday evening April 4th and get back on the road on Saturday
morning. If anyone is interested in sharing a ride and camping spot get in
touch with me. Right now am planning on renting a small car, but if there
is interest among several individuals we can see what we can do to make
this a real road trip.
