Phil,
I don't (as you know from our conversation on Wednesday). I just wanted to
apologise for not saying goodbye - I was so focussed on getting away once
I'd got the fuselage loaded, I completely forgot my manners.
Thanks also for your help loading. The cockpit module is safely stashed in
the dining room, the fuse in my neighbours garage, and the bits in
compartment trays (and it took 4.5 hours to inventory all the bit and pack
them away...).
Back to building - starboard flap fitting today :-) Might even get that
stall warner done, too.

Hi Tony,
It could be done, but not quickly. I'd need to dig out the specc and get the calc's
done. It's too crucial to not do properly. My gut feeling is that 2 plies
would be insufficient but I expect that a 3mm 6082 T6 or better plate would
do. Size to be calculated.

Hi All,
After ALL the fuel has been drained, purge the fumes out with Carbon Dioxide, either
from a MIG welding plant, or from a brewery bottle. A bottle can be hired
from most drink supply depots for not a lot of money.
Leave the gas running until all smell of fuel has gone, and let a little trickle
all the while you are working on the tank.
Ensure the tip of the iron is clean.

I am wondering after reading Paul McAllisters website about the
recommendations for preping the fuel tank before I attack it with my
soldering iron to install the Europa fuel probe (magnetic). The question is
that I was only going to drain it of fuel and wash it out with water, but I
now fear that I need to do more than that. Does the plastic absorb some of
the fuel that would make things dangerous for me if I keep to my original
plan?

i have the cooling air baffle and its going onto my 914. Europa
do sell a mold that allows you to insatll the baffle. I bought mine from my
local rotax agaent. He performed tests on its effectiveness and there was a
10 degree reduction in CHT temps.
Indeed it is expensive, but you can also buy it from anyone who has a 912s
but doesn't use it. I will ask my agent if he has one lying around his garage
and bring it over to sun&fun if you want. I got mine from him for $120.00
removed from a 912s. You will need your rotax agent to install it as it
involves movement of the engine frame. Are you coming to sun&fun?

I am planning to go to S&F and being there for the weekend of the 5th. I
would be very interested in getting one of these baffles, so if it is
possible, I would be able to buy one there. I would like to see how it is
mounted. I would hope to be able to avoid involving anyone else in the
installation. Where I live, it is not easy to get people out here.
Are you going to create a separate opening for the air inlet into this
cooling baffle? I would think you could do away with the two holes in the
front in that case. I know the diamond extreme has only one opening in the
front and it is for the scat tube that goes to this baffle. The routing of
the scat tube is a little challenging, because of the exhaust and the oil
pressure sender.
Maybe I'll see you at S&F?

The snout comes with the 912 cowl kit from Europa, but not the baffle. There
should be a few of the snouts laying around with people that aren't going to
use them. I have one but I still on the fence whether to install mine or not.

Hi again,
If you talk to Hooker Harness they will have my dimensions. The
only caveat is I had a long hookup for the shoulder harness. I purchased
inertial reels with my units. If you attach the inertial reels to the
roof of the airframe about a foot behind the rollover structure (behind
the doors). you tell them how far it is to the mounting point for the
reels. I firmly believe in inertial reels as you can be belted in snugly
and still lean forward for anything needed and still have full protection
in the forward direction. You SHOULD be snugly attached to the airframe
during take off and landing. But this can keep you from reaching
something you might need during that time. What about frequency changes,
transponder freq. changes ect. while you are climbing out?? With the
inertial reels you just do it and not worry. The inertial reels mount
with a 5/8" bolt. I made up a bracket that allowed for that and provided
legs from that point out away from the mounting point about 4". (a 8"
spread) This spread out the stresses that will occur during a sudden
stop. I covered the frame work with 6 layers of bid. This extended for
about 2" outside of the aluminum frame. Used flox under the frame to
have a good contact with the top of the airframe. I used aluminum
framing for my bracket. It gives me confidence for my safety.
The hooker harness dimensions I sent them is set up for
the standard mounting points on the europa for the lap belts. The
shoulder harness is as you wish. I'll try to remember to take pix of
them for you tomorrow. (one side is shorter than the other in the
mounting positions)

Hi Tony,
Grease?? we use no stinking greese.!!!! I use a synthetic
based grease which is waterproof. I sell a castrol brand of lubricants
so I just went for the best. I sell it for $4.50 a tube. Not expensive
but the best. Anything less is not waterproof. Needs to be a synthetic
base lubricant.

Dave,
If you get hold of a Europa 912S engine installation manual you'll find
the instructions for making the extra hole in the cowling to accommodate
the Rotax cylinder head cuff.
If you want to fit the cuff then it's an engine out job as you have to
remove the ring mount to get the cuff on.

Just in case anyone wants to say hi, I'll be on the Airmaster stand on
the morning of Saturday 5th and on the Europa stand on the morning of
Sunday 6th. Other times over the weekend just look for the kiwi with a
"it's the weekend, this must be Florida" glaze over his eyes.
Bob & John. I would have loved to have been at the BBQ's but it's just a
bit busy down under. I am assured that the Airmaster team will have some
shirts to go into the draw at the Europa BBQ.
