Erich,
Both of my fuel pumps are switchable.
* Fuel pumps - 'OFF'.
* Choke 'Fully In'. ( that is no choke)
* Throttle set just very slightly open. (approx 2500-3000 rpm)
I think that the starting problem when the 914 is warm/hot is one of
over-fuelling. I have also found that with a warm engine, after starting
using the above technique, putting the fuel pump on immediately can make the
engine die. It seems to need time to settle down before giving it full fuel
pressure.
Of course, it could be that this method of starting is specific to my
engine - for some reason.
regards,
Mike (G-JULZ)

Ian,
I have the Airmaster CS prop and have to say it works extremely well. I
would definitely buy it again.
Monowheel performance with an Airmaster prop on a 914 engine is just
brilliant.

I have never seen the exact details of the arrangement but I imagine it
as follows, the leg being formed in the shape of a long cylinder with a
piston acting on the honeycomb, it's hollows arranged vertically. On
impact the honeycomb crushes absorbing the energy.
For our purpose some testing would have to be done to find the right
material and dimensions but I doubt the possibility of reaching 16G
protection with the little space available- a few inches at most, but a
little is better than nothing.

With switched pumps as I also have, I am also considering shutting the pumps
off prior to engine shutdown when I anticipate a hot start to follow. The
engine will run for about 30 seconds with the pumps off after start, so
letting it run might reduce the fuel in the carbs giving a head start on the
hot start process?

Michael Parkin et al,
Cheers, I have NO experience with 914s and their difficulties,
but it seems to me that the problem (if overfuelling) is similar to flooding
the lawnmower. Don't want to sound like a hound but is it possible a sniff
of the exhaust would confirm overfuelling?

Folks,
Just a further development to our weather station at our farm strip we have
today added Wap access. It works a treat. I know a few have expressed
interest in getting something similar running.
For Wap!! real time info on our weather the address is
http://www.eastyorkshire.co.uk/eddsfield/wxdata
for internet access it is
http://www.eastyorkshire.co.uk/eddsfield/wxdata/eddsfield.htm
I'm going to find the new wap page good for accessing wind speed direction
and qfe etc before setting back to the field.
Anyone looking at it this evening will find it is not quite up to date due
to a major power failure in the area hence no power to the PC. Other than
that its very reliable now.
Regards
Kevin
The station consists of an Oragon Scientific WMR-968 weather station
connected to a pc running Weather Display software.
The hardware is fairly straight forward and consists of four remote sensors
reporting data to the main unit which records and displays the information.
This is linked to the pc via a serial cable.
The web cam image is produced with an old inter web cam mounted in a home
made external enclosure. Pictures are grabbed every hour and Weather Display
posts them to the site when it uploads on the hour.
http://www.weatherfront.biz/ for the unit at 399

Hi all"
I just wanted to thank everybody for all the feed back that I have received.
It has been very helpful and very informative. A lot of the builders have given
a lot of support knowing that this is a very big decision and a lot of money.
At this time there are a lot of unknowns for me as this will be my first
aircraft.
I have a few questions about getting my private licenses. I need to email or talk
with someone about this one. Also the insurance company said that I need
some instruction with a tail dragger if I get the mono wheel so I need to find
out how to go about doing that. The insurance company that I went thru is
EAA Falcon insurance. Has anyone had any bad experiences with Falcon.
Well that's all for now and thanks for all the feed back from everyone and the
support.

Dear Listers,
Neil Hulin of the Zenith-List at Matronics wrote to me suggesting I add a
"total of available messages" column to the 7-Day List Browse Main page,
and it seemed like a great idea! I've made the modifications and I think
many will find it extremely helpful as well. Have a look at the following URL:

Yep" They said for me which is as he said high because I am just starting.
Full coverage $2.498 per year while I am building the kit $400. per year and
it would go up when I get the engine.

Subject: | Monowheel Ground Handling |
--> Europa-List message posted by: DuaneFamly@aol.com
I was talking to a prospective Europa flyer online today. He was
asking about the handling problems while on the ground of the Europa
monowheel. While I've got about 30 hours in a conventional taildragger, and
have had the chance on three occasions to fly in Kim Prout's and the factory
demonstrator, I was never asked to takeoff or land them.
But I am also aware that the monowheel takeoff and landing technique is
effectively different. Could a few of the seasoned Europa monowheel flyers on
this forum provide some qualified discussion of the these two phases of
flight? I'm sure he would appreciate it.

Hi Alan
Well' it sounds like you are making the big jump and doing everything at
once. Buying and building an aircraft and getting your PPL that's what I am
going to try and do also. About the PPL should I go to a private company or
join a club to get the PPL. I have heard about the home study classes good
thing or bad.
Are you building a mono gear or tri. If you are building a mono then how
are you going about getting the taildragger endorsement. Sorry about
jumping from one question to another.
Thanks for the help
Allan

The Firewall forward kit includes a warp drive fixed pitch prop. This
can be upped to an Airmaster when you order the kit.
Now, do you want fries with that?

Last summer I changed over from the NSI VP prop to the Airmaster. Whilst the
NSI prop was well made the company backup was dreadful. Even David Hunter
(the main contact for NSI in the UK) has had difficulty in his dealings with
them. Airmaster on the other hand were fantastic. As my aircraft had been
grounded by the problem that David Bowie had had with the NSI Airmaster
managed to build my prop and ship it to me from New Zealand in 16 days.
Every time I had a question my e-mails were answered within the next working
day. Whilst my aircraft was temporarily grounded William Mills kindly lent
me a standard ground adjustable Warp Drive prop which I only managed to use
once due to the speedy delivery of the Airmaster.
My Airmaster is the latest feathering type. This has the added advantage of
being able to vary the cruise rpm in-flight whilst maintaining CS operation.
The engineering is superb. Unlike the NSI, the blades can be fitted or
removed without removing the hub and the pitch stops are easily accessed and
adjusted. If panel space is limiting the very compact control box minimises
the space needed. As well as being the best product available, the Airmaster
had the only controller that would have fitted into my crowded instrument
panel at that time. This may be a consideration for those who are
considering retrofitting. I haven't seen the Arplast controller yet but it
is probably very similar.
In use the rotary switch to select between Take-off, Climb, Cruise, Hold and
Feather minimises the need to look inside during high workload stages of
flight. The benefits over the basic VP prop mean that full power is
available for the whole of the take-off and the fine pitch on final approach
and flare helps to minimise the landing distance required.
