I hope I haven't misinterpreted this somehow but I was a bit surprised that a US
company representative "didn't have time" to read what his customers were saying
about his product. I had thought it was you guys who had taught the rest
of us what customer focus was about!
I agree that there is a lot of irrelevant posting and more repetition but, if you
subscribe to the digest service rather than individual messages, you only get
one long-ish message a day. I find it takes no more than a couple of minutes
to skim through this for anything of interest.

Unfair!
The US team is small and has to handle direct customer support,
logistics, sales, marketing, major airshow representation, demo flights
and more. I am not surprised that John doesn't have time to browse
messages every day. I am sure that customers with praise, criticism or a
requirement for advice are more than capable of contacting John
directly.
Like a few others, I am surprised that some people bring up issues on
the group without first have a discussion with Europa. The group
provides an excellent collective feedback on build and flying issues but
the definitive source for build information should always be directly
with the manufacturer.

I'd like to concur with Tony.
John not only looks after USA but in fact gets contacted by non-USA
Customers including me as some the ideas and options for the Europa are
not available in UK.
In recent months he has sourced and supplied items whilst 'in transit'
taking the Europa Demonstrator up to the Arlington WA Show. That
included phone calls and e-mail.
Also thanks to Andy, Neville and others in Kirbymoorside who also
assist greatly.

I'm afraid I must agree with Tony in his defence of the Europa
group, and John Hurst in particular. If you had seen these fellows toiling
in the sun, handling a dozen critiques an hour and looking after each other,
PLUS taking potential customers for flights and juggling wings around for
the OSH02
period, you would never question their motives. If John Hurst says he can't
monitor the screen for an hour a day, it's because he and the others are on
the go every day - and he can't.
They're a rare bunch - let 'em be.

I suspect this is the case. If you have an ammeter that
shows "discharge" I presume your system architecture is
something other than one of those illustrated in

There is another posssibility while remote can be a cause. If
there is an item in the garage which resonates at the frequency chosen and
which has a diode junction (corrosion), it can re-radiate at a wide range of
frequencies and swamp the spectrum. In a restricted area this could be a
cause. There are several famous precedents for this.

Hello,
There was a lot of email traffic regarding the installation of
the four main control system bearings and subsequent 'stiffening' sveeral
years ago. This is vital to good control.
The main stratagem seemed to be that one should take great care
to ensure that all four are in the same plane, accurately parallel and with
the spacing for control rods as specified. Andy was quite clear about the
precautions called for. So if anyone has questions about these bearings,
they should be cleared up before plunging into the installation.

I went out to fly the long wing Europa prior to flying mine for the first
time. It was a Saturday and I helped John load a customer's rental truck with
his aircraft, plus another's. This was after a long day of flying with me and
doing other things. The customer arrived at about 8PM and I left just before
midnight with John still hard at work. He puts a tremendous amount of time
and effort into his job and does an excellent job. I believe what he was
referring to was being able to read everything at this time during Sun & Fun.
I know if I go more that about 2 or 3 days away from this email, it becomes
almost unmanageable!

I just saw this thread, and being the customer being referred to in
Dave's posting below (thanks again for the help Dave!), I must
third/fourth/fifth the kudos and appreciation being bestowed upon John
in Lakeland.
John does not just 'work' at Europa USA, he 'lives' Europa. When I was
in Lakeland picking up my pieces, John's commitment and dedicated level
of service and hospitality was above and beyond what could ever be
expected from a business owner. I have to think it's related to his
passion for aviation and this terrific little plane.

I have a door lock which simply engages a jubilee clip fixed on the long
push rod of the door latch could be forced though, I did the same thing for
both doors, I wish I had an internal bolt latch for the passenger side
instead though.
Europa would have exchanged your plain gas cap if you'd asked prior to using
it ... they have a locking cap now available at a price.

Hello the forum.
I have just completed my upholstery and refitted the door rubbers for (I
hope) the final time. I can close the doors from the outside reasonably
easily but can't find a way to close them from the inside without
assistance. I did consider fitting a knob towards the aft end of the door
as an aid to pulling this closed so that I can shoot the bolts. Anyone done
this or any other suggestions to DIY door closing?

I had exactly this problem after moving my door struts as per Tony K's. I
could just close the door but the idea of the rear shot bolt not quite
engaging persuaded me to fit a small pull on the inside of the door. Problem
solved and as part of a specific check - greater safety.

We glassed a small 'U' shaped piece of blue foam onto each door to be used as a
finger grip, located on top of the door sill, just below the bottom of the

Somewhere deep in my build log is a picture of a couple of wooden door
handles that I fitted to mine and are copied from Kim Prout's aircraft.
Kim kindly took me round to a local hardware store to source them on a
visit several years ago.

Hi! Richard.
You will find that you can't reach any assist handle you put on the door
behind your shoulder.(unless you are a contortionist! The best way to close
the doors is to press DOWN and FORWARD at the same time. When the door is as
snug downwards that you can get it throw the latch home.
Eventually the rubber will leave a mark which will show you where you need
to press the door to for it to be in line to engage the bushes.

Dear Listers,
I just wanted to send out a quick note to let everyone know that the 1.5Mb
T1 connection upgrade went smoothly today. They brought up the new line
and router yesterday on a test subnet and today the ISP switched over
connectivity about 12 noon with little to no incident. I just finished
some performance testing, and it appears that actual throughput and
interactive response is noticeably improved as advertised!
