Dear Europa Listers,
Rowland Carson graciously mailed me a CDROM with all of the previous Europa
Forum archives dating back to July of 1995! Last night I wrote a number of
scripts to clean them up and reformat them for compatibility with the
Matronics Search Engine, Archive Browser, and Download Site. I'm happy to
report that the full set of Europa archives are now online at the Matronics
web site! Here are a few URLs of interest:
Searching:
----------
http://www.matronics.com/search/
Be sure to select the "Europa" archive in the "Select Archive" pull
down. I just did a search using the following criteria: "engine & cowling
& inlet" and the server returned 153 hits in 2 seconds from the 30Mb
archive! Very speedy!
Browsing:
---------
http://www.matronics.com/archive/archive-index.cgi?Europa
This page will give you smallish, 500k chunks of the archive, preformated
for easy viewing. Again, they date back to July of 1995.
Downloading:
------------
http://www.matronics.com/archives/ (Scroll down to the Europa
section)
or
ftp://ftp.matronics.com/pub/Archives/
Here you can download the cleaned versions of the full Europa archives in
either pure text, UNIX Compress, or .ZIP formats. Respective sizes range
from 29.4Mb, 12.3Mb, and 8.4Mb currently.
Special thanks to Rowland Carson for keeping all of those messages all
these years and for graciously offering to mail me a CDROM with everything
on it! Please feel free to access the Europa list archives whenever you
like. Also, if you haven't already done so, please give the archive Search
Engine a try. I think you will find it extremely useful and
extraordinarily responsive.

Terrific! Thanks!
But...... minor software bug? Once the search is executed, the top
frame for selecting new search criteria no longer lists "Europa" as an
archive name in the drop-down.... it goes from "Engines" to "EZ"
Oops....
Cheers & thanks again,

Whoops! Fixed!
Actually, it would have searched the right archive, the text label was
just wrong. Darn that cut-n-paste! :-)
Thanks for the heads up.

Subject: | Alternative to the bunge aileron trim |
--> Europa-List message posted by: "Peter Zutrauen" <peterz@zutrasoft.com>
While browsing the RAH newsgroup, I saw an interesting posting of a
roll-trim concept being used on canard. Designed by Mr. Wright and Mr.
Hanka, it utilizes a composite spring in the shape of a circlip, with
one end attached to the aileron drive and the other to a servo. As with
the bungee idea, there is no need to modify the aileron, but as with the
embedded aileron servo, it is still infinitely adjustable with a switch.
I found the idea a good compromise, and a keeper. I wonder if there is
room in the spar tunnel to hide the servo and spring instead of crowding
the footwell?
I've attached the jpeg of their design for John to put up on the support
site if he so wishes. The original post to RAH claimed no intellectual
rights, so posting shouldn't be a problem (the design is quite basic in
any case).
Cheers,
Pete

Hi All,
I now have all of my flying surfaces ready for painting(at last!!). The painter
is asking me to have jigs so he can paint them flat. For those who have gone
before could you please share your experiences with me.
As always a picture is worth a thousand words so if you have photographs of any
jigs please send them to me off net.
Thanks,

Have signed it already. I was absolutely appalled by Mayor Daley's vandalism
of the airfield after I saw pictures of it on the Luscombe list. I am
becoming a bit concered what with a president who gets elected by rigging
the votes in CA and the actions of people like Mayor Daley. I hope that this
is not the kind of "democracy" intended to be installed in Iraq once the war
is over.
The FAA knew nothing about the closure, and neither would any pilots who
would have had the field as an alternate in case of an emergency!! To my
mind this action put peoples lives at risk. Stupid!
For those who don't know, the mayor had police vehicles escort diggers to
rip the great chunks of the runway out just after the the tower closed at
11pm. In the interests of national security apparently.

True enough about the vandalism and irresponsible closure of Meigs Field. I
agree with you.
But I would suggest you get the facts right--really right--before you talk about
"rigging the votes..." no matter which US state you are referring to. The issue
you are apparently referring to (Florida) happens to be political rather than
legal and there are sooo many who are willing or even anxious slander the
outcome even after it has been legally decided. Lay off please.

Yes I did mean Florida, it was midnight and I was tired. I'll take my
comments about the "vote rigging" back for legal reasons!!
Anyway on the subject of jigs, we just made up wooden jigs that look very
much like the trestles that you can find at any aircraft mantainance shop. I
do have pictures but I will have to get them developed.
I understand that when the sprayer sprays the wings he will need to have the
wings absolutely secure so they cannot move.
I believe that you can buy cheap plastic trestles in some DIY shops that
might serve the purpose if they are ridgid enough.
