Hi Folks,
can someone please let me know what the width(chord) of the of
a warpdrive blade is at it widest point .I mean for the 912s/914 widechord.

Kingsley,
I did consider a closed trailer but was concerned about the windage and
possible problems I might encounter towing in a strong sidewind.
Have you found this a problem at all?

For those contemplating building or obtaining a trailer, I think this recent
thread highlights just one of the advantages of a closed in trailer.
As well as providing protection from water ingress, a good closed in trailer
also provides protection from :-
(a) Sun as well as rain
(b) Stone damage from passing vehicles
(c) Dust ingress
(d) More protection in the event of a vehicular accident
(e) Considerable roll over protection
(f) Wind gusts from passing trucks
(g) Hail damage
(h) Better security (if lockable)
In my case, it will also be used as the permanent storage location for the
aircraft.
They also make excellent furniture removal vans!
Just my thoughts

Hi! Richard.
No problem towing my trailer but it's heavy. It is rigged also to take a
mono or trike.
See it at http://www.crix.org.uk

Richard - I towed my closed trailer from Gloucestershire to Yorkshire
to pick up my stage 2 & 3 kits. That was just over 230 miles each
way, mostly on motorway & dual-carriageway. I had put old carpets and
other packing stuff in the nose for the outbound journey, but still
found that it was a bit twitchy at the legal limit of 60mph - passing
lorries tended to suck out the back end and start a tendency to
snake. In the interests of safety I did not exceed 55mph and found it
was fine at that speed. On the way back, (although the fuselage &
wings do not seem to weigh that much when you're loading them) things
felt much more stable and I could cruise at 60mph comfortably
(gradients permitting).
My trailer was made by Roger Huttlestone of Northwick Manufacturing
near Moreton-in-Marsh (01386 700709) for a monowheel Europa, with OMO
rigging gear. It's a steel ladder chassis with a glass-fibre
(polyester resin) "covered wagon" top (composite D-section hoops,
laid-up sheet wrapped over). It is about 8.5m from hitch to tailgate,
with the single axle about 5.8m back from the hitch.
I have found it very helpful as a store for parts I'm not working on,
and the plan is that it will be the hangar when the aeroplane is
finished.
regards
Rowland

Richard,
I don't live in an area where high winds are common so am unable to directly
comment on your question. However, the stability of trailers is dependent
on many factors so I will just list some of the principles I have employed.
(a) Keep the side area as small as possible by making the sides as low as
possible.
(b) Side areas ahead of and behind the wheels are much the same. Side
elevation is of rectangular shape.
(c) Four wheel load sharing suspension
(d) 50kg to 60kg load on the tow ball
Of course, the type of towing vehicle has a big influence on towing
characteristics with this sort of trailer (inc glider trailers)
I also think you will find that if wind causes a closed in trailer to be
unstable, the trouble would not be in the wind so much as it would be the
inherent instability of the trailer. The wind would become a trigger just
like running off the edge of the road or swerving would be. Having said
that, I would expect strong gusty cross winds to buffet the trailer to the
extent that you would certainly feel it but I don't see why it should cause
a big problem. Then again, I suppose it depends on the definition of strong
winds too!!
Feel free to contact me off list if you should so desire.
Cheers
Kingsley

In the bloody 'Nanny State' we live, Tony's paradise for yobism! Until
the punishment fits the crime, any crime, this is going to get worse.
When it goes to Court, that's if anyone ever finds the bastards, the
Punishment is likely to be:
100 Hours Community Service which will probably consist of 'LEARNING TO
FLY at Tax payers expense or
an all expenses Holiday! It goes on! The libertarian minority will
focus on the miscreants disadvantaged life and lack of opportunity.
REALLY!!!!
In these days of 'body adornment', Tattoos, Body piercing etc, perhaps
a more barbaric approach is required.
A Tattoo across the perpetrators brow with the words' I'M A THIEVING
BASTARD or I COMMIT CRIMINAL DAMAGE! as a part of the judicial process.
It's funny how Governments can spend billions on removing tyranical
regimes that limit human rights supposedly but cant take the concept
that living in a society where your home and possessions are plundered
and damaged by those who have no concept or adherence to common decency
let alone Human rights is an invasion of our Human rights too. Looting
is no different to the burglary, theft and damage here in UK or
Yesterday at Redhill!
Perhaps 'hang them up for a few hours on the Lip and Eye Brow Rings
they all love so much. I'm sorry but this sort of wanton, criminal
behaviour needs a radical and violent response. If you have been robbed
or had your home violated then you may have some agreement with my more
strident attitude.
I'm fortunate that help to retrieve MY goods stolen and to 'adjust' the
thinking of the thieving Bastard who took them was done within a close
circle of Neighbours and Friends and without wasting the Tax payers
money. There was a later cost for his Hospital treatment.
I feel better now but my sympathies are with those who have lost
enjoyment opportunities this Summer due to the 'write off' of these
hard worked for Aircraft.
I'll get back to polishing and cleaning my AK47....... Come the
revolution.......

Gerry I had hoped it was better in UK than here in the US. Myself I always thought
putting these criminals in stocks for a few days and nights worked wonders.
A couple of photos in various newspapers... run them outta town... civil rights
be damned when they tromp so wantonly on the rights of others. Anyway I
could go on and on but don't believe this forum is the place for it. My apologies
to the forum for spouting off but I couldnt' keep quiet any longer. Paul
