I've been following this thread too. How about using the Type 1 (plastic )
connectors only using two of them, one on each side of the firewall. Then
make the penetration thru the firewall as described on the aeroelectric site.

      Hi Folks,

After a break from building, I finally got my GS stern post glued in and am
now wanting to get on with my tail wheel mod. (convert to something more
like the XS tail wheel, I also have the GS mods. for it) - only problem is I
can't find the instructions for it. Does anyone have a copy they could scan
and email or fax to me?

      Cheers,
      Mark.

p.s. please direct any personal reply to europa@nimbus.geog.ox.ac.uk as this
address is about to expire (when/if NTL get themselves sorted out).

I'm at the wing stage of fitting the aileron's onto the wings for a test fit after
drilling and placing the nut plates on the hinges. The Top flange on the trailing
edge of the wings will not let the aileron's fit into the trailing edge.
The manuel does not state if the Top flange can be trimmed or if it must be
trimmed to fit the aileron's onto the wing properly. It's an XS kit with the
quickbuild wings. Has anyone else had this problem and if so what was your fix.
I'm relunctant to cut without checking as I can see some problems with the
top skin if I trim too much or too far. The top curve on the aileron's (both port
and starboard) hit the top flange the full length of the aileron.

I would recommend that you NOT trim at this stage, or at least trim only a little.
You can get in trouble if you trim too much - I did it and the fix was no
fun. Don't worry about rubbing at this point. When you bond the top of the wing
on, you'll use spacers to open the gap. If, after the top is on, you need to
trim for correct aileron travel, you'll be able to trim a lot less than you would
now. The wing top will help hold the closeout in the correct position.

      David,
Thanks for answering so fast. However the top flange holds the aileron's
hinge plates up approx 1/2 inch from the bottom skin. I can force it in but
am at the stage of having to cut and measure for aileron rod from the
bellcrank and am critical of it affecting that length. also I would have to
cut back on either side of the aileron in order to have enough "play" in
the flange to bend up enough.

      David,
Took your advice, did not cut any off the top flange but made 2 cuts on the flange
on either side of the aileron's and fitted them both in. Worked very well
and did not have to cut any of the flange "off". thanks for the advice.

It is normal for the ailerons to rub against the top flange and you should
not trim the top flange at this stage. If your problem is more serious than
simple rubbing against the top flange it may be wise to ask the factory for
      advice.

On my XS wings the aileron closeout had been incorrectly bonded in at the
root, leaving insufficient space for the aileron. On the port wing this
resulted in the bond between the bottom closeout flange and the rib breaking
when I foolishly used some force to push the aileron in. On the starboard
wing the aileron would not go in at all, so I took some measurements and
emailed the factory. Europa suggested cutting the bonds at the root, fitting
the aileron and then re-bonding the closeout. This has solved the problem,
although the ailerons are still a tighter fit than normal (the wing
reinforcements have tended to lock in the tight dimensions). Hopefully this
will be resolved when I trim back the top flange after closing the wings.

For the variometer to do its job, it really needs to be connected to a total
energy probe. With that, it really doesn't do the same thing as a VSI. I have
both in mine -- a Tasman variometer, which goes for about $450 and is
electronic - no moving parts. So far it works very well.

      John,
My closeout on one wing for the aileron is 47MM root end 50 MM outboard end.
The other is 45 MM both ends. My ailerons both measure 66MM on the root and
52MM outboard end. I wound up cutting a horizontal cut on the top of the
closeout approx 1" just outboard of both ends and this allowed the aileron
to slip in...albeit a little tight but worakable without having to cut any
of the top "off". I appreciate the advice and will check with the factory
about what the actual measurements should be.

Does anybody know of a good way to measure the output of the alternator to

various conditions? I would even like to display that in the aircraft on a
