Hi!
I'm in process of fitting an overhauled 912 Engine.
I'm about to order Rotax parts: 975795 & 975796 Air Cooling Baffles but
thought it might be worth posting to this forum just in case someone
has a surplus or unused set. I'm willing to purchase and collect.
Anyone?

--> Europa-List message posted by: "Nigel Charles" <nigelcharles@tiscali.co.uk>
For those who are interested in another alternative, I have just completed
replacing all my hoses aft of the firewall with stainless ribbed tubing and
JIC fittings. I have also completed an update on my parallel fuel system
which now dispenses with the mechanical pump. The reason for this was to
eliminate the hoses that cross the engine twice greatly reducing the vapour
lock risk. This allows most of the senders to be aft of the firewall which
also reduces heat transfer. To prevent total electrical power loss to the
pumps, the two pumps have a total of three busbars available for power
source and a crowbar unit prevents the regulator from bringing the whole
system down. To enable the tubing to start from the tank outlets replacement
threaded outlets were supplied by Graham Singleton.
The stainless tube has the following advantages:
1. It should never need replacing. Rubber hoses should be replaced every 5
years.
2. It is much lighter than any other hose or tube.
3. It is easily cut with a tube cutter leaving no swarf.
4. In conjunction with the JIC fittings it is designed to take up to 14bar
pressure which is way above what we need.
5. Unlike rigid steel tube it can be bent easily by hand and is impossible
to kink. This eases initial installation and enables removal of a section of
the system. It also avoids the critical length problems associated with
rigid tube.
The one disadvantage is the JIC fittings cost about 8($12) each so it pays
to design the system with the minimum number of joints.
My parallel system has now been greatly simplified having gone all electric
and with the reduced amount of hoses/tubing I have saved about 4lb in weight
some of which is due to changing to the stainless tube. I estimate that my
system went from being about 3lb heavier than the standard system to 1lb
lighter. The only remaining hose is the short length from the firewall to
the carburettors as this needs to be a little more flexible.
I am just about to test fly the new set-up but don't anticipate any
problems. If there are any I will report back.

Hi Paul,
my fuel system is all teflon 666. I almost got a coronary when told the
price of the fittings, but luckily a friend at aeroquip came to the resque.
Hopefully it should last the lifetime of the plane. The aeroquip guys are
doing the joining work for a proper fit. I doubt one can use clips to hold
the hoses. There is not enough "meat" for the clip to give a tight seal. You
will have to use JIC fitting to get a tight seal.
regards Karim.

The PV50 absorbs the power less harshly than the Warp Drive blades. More
inherent damping in the layups I think, they aren't solid graphite like the
latter, they have graphite torsion layups but S glass tension layups. (S
glass is much higher modulus than the E glass normally used for structures
but not as hi as graphite)

Another option is the RMI uEncoder. The VSI sensitivity, damping, and
display range are programmable to suit. Can tweak thus for IFR also,
but the VSI display is tiny. Ditto for EFIS panels in MS Flight
Simulator, without being able to adjust sensitivity, if one wants to see
what it's like "on the gauges."

Hi Dave,
Is it possible to set the damping high enough to make is usable as a normal VSI?
How's the flying going? When do we get to see more pics on your website :-)

Approved aircraft should last a long time, but for maintenance when
under FAA rules, the recommendation is replacement at 5 years. FAA says
also that in removing Teflon hose during maintenance, do not bend them
as Teflon takes a set. Thus one advantage of automotive fuel hose is
the ease/cost of replacement during maintenance. Removal from barbed
fittings eventually gets tough anyway, so partially slice through the
hose end and toss it in the trash. Fresh rubber, renewed seal at a hose
clamp fitting. Maybe all things considered it kind of all nets out?
Best,
Fred F.

Hey Guys
For what it is worth, I use one of these to measure height on Models. Not top of

I never dealt with these folk, so let buyer beware:

Hi All
I looking for a recommendation of a company to do our registration plate to go
inside the cockpit. The one that has to be made from stainless steel and has to
contain the registration letters and state of registration, ie "G-SELF" in big
letters and "United Kingdom" in small letters.
I figured that we should make it 500x250mm. Any thoughts on the size of the
plate?
What companies have you guys used. Have you have been happy with quality and
price?
Cheers

It could be that you are pressing too hard. If you use fresh sandpaper
very little downward pressure is needed to do the job, alternatively you
could try using a wider sanding block that will "bridge" the dip.

I don't know if it is a requirement from Europe or not. It was just what was
written on the PFA paperwork as a requirement. I wouldn't complain too much as
the requirement used to be to have the name and address of the owner engraved
on the plate too!

Of more interest is where you are going to mount a plate of that size! Or
did you mean 50mm x 25mm?
A fallback option is to use a centre punch to punch a series of "dots" to
form the letters.

They did mine (and other placards, including a matching plastic "Maximum
baggage 80 lbs") for a very modest price.
Incidentally G-SHSH took to the air for the first time about 3 weeks ago in
the very capable hands of David Hunter at Kemble. He was so pleased with it
on the first flight that he took it out of the circuit and only came back
when he began suffering from hypothermia - those faulty NACA vents again!
On the 2nd flight, the U/C tended to drop in turbulence, so minor adjustment
to the lever arm needed. Also required was adjustment to the idle speed. We
had blocked off the NACA vents and he then complained of the heat! There's
no pleasing these test pilots!
I have been in USA for the last couple of weeks, so further progress has been
delayed.

Following advice on the forum, I just got a local key cutting booth to
engrave my reg. on a spare piece of stainless left over from the firewall.
I pop riveted this inside the engine bay. In addition I got a nice posh
looking aluminium plate made by a trophy maker to attach to the panel inside
the cockpit.
