The tubes must have been lost somwhere on the way to Switzerland. Do you still have some tubing left? If so, could you please let me know and I will send you another adressed envelope together with 4.-. ( Altough I might use some better quality envelope this time!) I have now twice run the reserve dry, once deliberately and once inadvertantly and on each occasion there was time to get head in gear and switch over to reserve without the engine even blinking. This should also cover the situation Europa once described where their 914 started coughing, but recovered when pump 2 was switched on, and they subsequently found the Gascolator filter heavily gunged. So it seems to me that this system offers a reliable changeover arrangement, not depending on a quiet engine, with the advantages of simplicity, lightness and cheapness. When we arrived at the strip this morning, the aircraft was covered in dew and he used a damp towel which he took from inside the aircraft to wipe down the wings. Now before wiping with the towel, we could write on the wings with our fingers in the dew but immediately the towel was wiped across the wing, the dew turned to frost and became quite firmly stuck to the wing surface. Since neither of us has seen this before, thought I would just mention it in the hope that somebody might be able to explain exactly why it did this. We realise the dew was super cooled water droplets but are unsure why it instantaneously became frost when wiped with the towel but not with our fingers.?? Your finger warms the area, keeping the water water. The towel, at a considerably lower temperature than your finger, removes all but a fine mist of water which then cools and freezes as it evaporates? It would be interesting to know what the dew point and temperature was when it occurred. Puzzling for sure. Yours is the only one which has failed. I can send you another piece of the difficult to obtain stainless tube but have run out of the 4130 steel tube but that is readily available from A/C Spruce or Wicks. If you let me have your address details I will send it to you. Or as vapour is purged after parking in the sun? Or have I only just landed back on Planet Earth! It was issued mid-May 2003. "Subject This program covers the exchange of the oil dipstick for some 912/914 series engines. Oil dipstick part number 956 150 is to be removed from service and exchanged with the new style oil dipstick part number 956 151. It has been discovered that the characteristics of some oils result in a slower return of the oil from the crankcase to the tank, causing the oil tank level to fall below the minimum. To remedy this situation is it necessary to increase the volume of oil in the system by approximately 0.48 qt (0.45 litres).A new dipstick is therefore necessary to ensure an accurate assessment of the oil volume in the tank. Service Information All Rotax 912 & 914 (series) owners & operators should review Rotax Service Bulletin SB-912-040 / SB-914-026 / SB-912-040UL / SB-914-026UL Introduction of a New Oil Dipstick for ROTAX Engine Type 912 and 914 (series). This information is available via the Internet at http://www.rotax-owner.com . You may also contact your Service Center to obtain a copy. Affected Engines This exchange program affects the following engines: Engine Type Up to and Including Serial Number 912 A - 4410606 912F - 4412858 912S - 4922971 914F - 4420394 Exchange Procedures Affected engine owners should contact their nearest authorized Service Center to obtain a new oil dipstick.Authorized Kodiak Research Ltd. Service Centers will provide the new oil dipstick (Rotax PN 956 151) to affected engine owners free of charge. Engine owners are responsible for any applicable freight or delivery charges. To obtain a new oil dipstick at no charge, affected engine owners will be required to supply their engine serial number as well as their name, address, telephone number and e-mail address (if available). Compliance Affected engines must meet compliance at the next oil change of within the next 100 hours of operation, but not later than July 1 st 2003 . Program Duration New oil dipsticks will be available at no charge to affected engine owners until July 15th , 2003." I'm in no way spreading alarm, just making this news aware to all Rotax Users.
