What a pity, i planned to put this offer on long ago, but have been
      thinking "tomorrow" all the time.
From Kiruna it's just a small hop to Ivalo! Let me know whenever you
intend to go up North again, as i will arrange for you outside the
      alotment of needed.

The rotax engines have an oldfashioned coil-fixed nagnets built-in type
type of generator. There is no field coil, not needed because of the
fixed magnets. There is no collector. So reliability is likely to be
better then a normal external generator. The weak point here is
probably the regulator/rectifier. The capacity of this built-in
generator is so small however, that i don't think it will fry the
battery, not while flying and other load is on. Worst case i can think
of is a shorted rectifier or regulator, which will blow the 60 A fuse
from the Europa diagram. So we are still flying on the battery for some
time, but i wonder what will happen to the field coils, can they be
      shorted without smoke or?
Who knows what is in that box?

The manual diagrams 8 series connected coils. Suppose they could have
paralleled a pair of 4 coils, but I'm guessing that won't give you the
desired output even with necessarily much bigger coils.

It should be something which can be made to work when unearthed in an
archeological dig a thousand years from now. However, the big stator
recall, though believe the ignition part of it, was just a stupid wire
      or two failing!

      Best,
      Fred F.

We noticed the RG batteries do not hold up well if your A/C is operated off a
rough field. They don't take being bumped around very well. We found this out
the hard way in our Pawnee tow plane after helping out a neighboring glider
club with a contest. Their runway is pretty rough (so rough I won't go back)
and it wound up shorting out a cell in the Pawnee's RG battery, causing it to
fail. If you operate off a rough field you might want to consider a sealed
battery in lieu of an RG battery.

The Rotax regulator box is apparently an Austrian state secret, no even
Bob Nuckoll's has been privy to its contents

I built a lighting system for my instruments using 5mm focused red LEDs. I
control the brightness by varying the ON time of 555 square wave generator.
The frequency is about 1000 hz. which is plenty fast to appear smooth to the
eye. There is NO noise on the radio or intercom. I didn't add any extra caps
than the circuit calls for. See Kitplanes Mar. 01. DON'T put LEDs in
paralell, one will turn on first and hog all the current. LEDs are not made
to meet an exact turn on voltage. Put a separate current limiting resistor
in series with each LED. The Europa wasn't available when I started my
Zodiac kit. I flew the B-47 so I have some experience with bicycle landing
      gear.

      Hello Bob,

How did you manage to take 39 hours to fly 3561 NM, which I calculate to be an
      average of 91 kts?

My Baltic States trip, also 10 days (but 9 days flying) was 2872 NM in 26 hrs 15
mins. What revs do you cruise at?

My fuel consumption was 400 litres, ie 15.2 per hour - at 5000 rpm.

Which days will you be at Kemble?

      Hi! David.
Probably head winds and circuitious routes trying to get off the sea and
avoid cloud ? We only flew 6 days actual 1.5 days off in Stockholm, 2 days
weathered in 1/2 day off in Scotland.
My RPM was 2,300 all the way since I don't have a screaming gear box !
I hope to be at Kemble for the Friday only.

UK flyers, builders and interested parties, don't forget our Annual fly-in
is on next Saturday 28th June, at Bidford on Avon Gliding Centre, There will
be a BBQ going on from about noon, or you can sample a bit of Italy from our
resident chef in the club house. Gliding flights will be available for
anyone wishing to try an alternate form of flying.
Bidford is a bit un-conventional so you must give me a ring for info on
arrival/departure procedures if you have not been before. There is no radio
control, but we use 129.975 to report joining and position in the circuit,
you may get a response for info on the radio, but if not just look out for
the landing 'T' next to the caravan at the Eastern threshold and land
accordingly. Circuits are always to the South, and always turn left directly
after landing just in case there is a glider right behind you, remember he
can't go around so he needs to know what you are going to do after your roll
out. Don't be put off though it is not a difficult field and there is
plenty of room (800M) and armed with a bit of knowledge it all works well.
Phone me at home any evening on 01675 481504 or on the day, mobile for last
      minute info 07947 897666

      Mark Hi!
      >
      > Does anyone have a smart way of getting the nose-leg bungee tensioned?
      > I find it awfully difficult to get enough tension into the bungee.
      >
      NO!

It is definitely a 2 man job. One to pull down and one to hold or 'lock' as
the bungee is further wound on.

Space is the other consideration. I have removed all the area corresponding
to the Monowheel space and it's covered by a flush cover. That gives me an
access area of at least 10" X 15". Flush some additional space above this in
the area immediately around Front Leg hinge.

Another observation is that 150 kgs seems very hard to obtain when tested
without Tail-plane and Wings attached. i.e. Only Engine and Prop weights
      taken into consideration.

Hopefully Neville may see this request of yours and add some of his wisdom!
      God help us!!

      Regards

I need to tap the 12 mm x 1.75 for the flap pins. I can't find any that say
coarse thread. McMaster Carr has them in size D6 and D3 is the D6 size the
right one? While I'm ordering do I need any other sizes later? Sure would be nice

to have the manual in PDF format so I could search it, Hint... Hint
      Thanks,
      SteveD.

Curious about performance of the Motorglider.

I have limited experiance in gliders. Perhaps 50 hours.

Just some 2-33, 2-32, 1-26 flying, and some Blanick (not sure exact model but
think it was metal and at least the Te was swept foward? and Lark flying (not
sure bout model, but glass and slippy).

Is it remote similar to any of the above?

      Thx.

Let me know if you find any. I'd like to find a similar brush arrangement
that I could use in the anti-servo and flap drive slots to keep the critters (mud

      dobbers) out.

McMaster-Carr has strip brushes on page 1089 of the catalog. Go to http://www.mcmaster.com/ and search for "strip brushes". A 3' piece of nylon brush, 3/16" thick with 1" bristles, will set you back a princely $7.23 US.

      Hi Mark,

I installed the bungee on y own initially and then found it too soft after
      mounting the engine.
It is a job for two pairs of hands. We lay underneath the fuselage. One guy
      holds the bungee
tightly or hangs on it, while the other feeds the next loop. That way is
      very easy, but assumes
that you left the fuselage open underneath the frame.

      Cheers, Karl
