Gary,
Do you by chance have any photos of this setup please, and what made you put
them in the windscreen rather than the forward portion of the gullwing door? Is
this location too far aft????

Gidday,
These Ultimate Ventilators in the Spruce Catalogue look good, and solid. I know
that the best and easiest ventilation comes from a deflection into the airflow,
and yes it is draggy. I am happy to be able to modify my comfort, and my drag
subject to my needs. So, these little guys look good. I would like to know
their diameter, best recommended placement if it is other than the usual
location, and whether I can bond my cutout of skin to the outside of the flange
that rotates, to make it basically invisible from the outside except the
scribed circle?
Thanks, and yes they are not cheap at $130 AUD.

I too have installed these ventilators. A hole saw of 1 7/8" was used for
the opening. I chose a position midway between the front and rear span of
the windshield, just below the thick reinforced part of the fuse molding,
and above the fuse moldings jogle. This puts the ventilator just above my
knee and just clears the panel glareshield. After I cut the holes it was
apparent that the skin is very thin and flexible there so I added two layers
of carbon bid to stiffen it up. The units were bonded in with redux from the
inside, a filet of redux around the 21/2" dia. edge.
Gary, glad to hear you like them, now that I have stuck these expensive
little things in my project! I just didn't want to go the Naca route.
Another option would be a sliding window vent like most sailplanes have. Has
anyone gone that route? Then you would have an opening to drop small objects
from!
Still working on the doors, Kevin

Kevin,
My understanding is vent windows, like seen in sailplanes, are an option, at
least on US kits where the glass comes from LP Aeroplastics. As I recall I
think I was quoted about $300 each for them. I think the Ultimate Ventilators
will serve better over time. Window vents always seem to crack in the corners,
especially where there is vibration involved.

Paul Hi!

I've used Brass 6mm and 8mm Nuts and Bolts as standoffs or studs for Power,
Earth and Alternator Feed. I'm using EXP Bus so once these connections get
to Circuit Board all gets taken care of other than adding Circuit Breaker
for Alternator/Battery protection.
Magneto Leads have come through on their own and connected straight to
Magneto Switches and screened.
All other wiring which is mainly 18 to 22 awg is going through a Multi way
Circular Plug secured to Firewall on a stainless plate. This plate is
secured with bolts into fixed nuts and can be detach with engine for repair
or whatever.
If you want to share in my particular 'madness' on wiring then I can send
photo if you are desperate! Good Fun though.

Everything you need to know about things electric and in particular about
firewall penetration can be found at the Aero-Electric Connection. For
starters go to:
http://www.aeroelectric.com/articles/Firewall_Penetration/firewall.html It
would also be a good idea to sign up for the AeroElectric-List at

Finally today at 10:45am N166BB took to the air at Lakeland Regional Airport.
Lee Omernik was the test pilot for the first flight which lasted approx. 20 minutes
in 93F degree temps. Engine temps stayed in the green even after a 15 minute
taxi. Squawks were a slightly erratic FlyDat and fuel odor. Power is 912ULS
and Prince P tip prop.
It took longer that I had thought to get to this point but it is worth the wait
to see your creation take flight.
Keep at it.
