The Ivoprop is more common among rag wing microlights, as we call them
here. Europa factory tried one some years ago, it failed, fortunately not
catastrophically after a couple of hours flying. Performance was not as
good as the Warp Drive either as I remember.

Hello Graham,
How are you, I am fly 220 hours now with my monowheel and interested to
buy variable pitch propeller.
The Air master is too much expensive , also my friend Jean Martin of
Persan have broken Air master one blade, and the total coast to return
in new Zealand and come back is about 1000 !!! and add repair.
After investigations, I see the advantages & defaults of main suppliers
on the market; finally we think that Arplast is the most interesting for
us Quality/price.
For the reason that I explained before, I prefer to have possibility to
go to Arplast factory in France if I have a problem.
We are interested by Arplast PV50 constant speed prop.
What is you opinion of this prop and your knowledge of fly qualities?

Tony, that's the other way around, 12mm inlets and 8mm outlets?

The rotax supplied 914 pumps have 8mm inlets and 12mm outlets and you'll
need a down converter and 8mm (5/16") ID hose for the rest.

Gentlemen,
Ivoprop makes props for up to 700HP applications. The prop I was referring
to in my inquiry is the Ivoprop Magnum medium series. They have an in flight
adjustable for $1750 thats being recommended by the folks at Lookwood
Aviation for the Europa. The person I talked to said he thought they sold
one to someone building one, anyone out there that can confirm that or has
thought of using one?
Thanks,
Jeff

A key point, Rowland! The older Michael/Rook pumps all appear to be fine.
It's the new ones they're having problems with - my recommendation to anyone
wanting one is to get a second-hand example. It's not as if they wear out
quickly!

Sure. It's simply a 100-or-so balance reading to 0.1g and with a range up
to 300g. I may have confused you calling it a balance (which is what I was
taught to call them in school) rather than using the term "scales" which I
note is in common usage across the Atlantic - apologies if I did.
Using it for mixing Ampreg/Aeropoxy is very simple:
1) Put cup on balance and tare it (reset to zero)
2) Pour the appropriate amount of resin - use a syringe for fine adjustment
if required
3) Add hardener - again using a syringe as you get close, for accuracy
With Redux it's just as simple - put the resin in first using mixing sticks
and add hardener with a syringe again.
The only other tip I'd offer is to have lots of syringes (I use 10ml ones)
and treat the hardener ones as one-shot, chucking them in acetone to soak as
soon as you've measured out a mix. The hardeners seem to attack the rubber
after a time and you can end up with them sticking and you pulling the
rubber off.

Jeremy

I use plastic table top ketchup and mustard bottles. Any dime store that
sells kitchen ware will have a set.The ones I use have a cap on a lanyard attached
to the bottle's cap. They work great and you can do several medium size
batches before they need to be refilled.

To Dave A227,
Dave in February of this year you posted the engine mounts you used and the
fact that they cut down the vibration a lot. At the time you hadnt flown
yet. If my memory serves me correct there was some negative talk on softer
mounts but I was Just wondering if youve flown yet and if so are you
satisfied and how much does the engine move?
Hope you get this.
Thanks,
Jeff

I stand corrected... I was in the office when I typed that.
For all those who have installed their 914 pumps with the 12mm end as an
outlet then your configuration sucks :).
And no, I haven't done it that way round!!

There always seems to be a pattern that emerges from this occasionally
repeated debate.
Those who actually have a pump think they're brilliant.
Those who don't, aren't so sure;
hence the fuel for debate!.

No they're not suited to the 914. But the roller cell pumps that are used
with that engine are available with a wide variety of fittings (eg banjo)
that not necessarily need a slip-on hose. But not in directly AN compatible
forms, as far as I know. It is however possible to obtain adapters to
achieve that compatibility.

A problem I have with my "old" Michael Engineering pump...a machine
purchased 20 years ago amid the Q-2 craize (which, by the way, brings up a
lot of unpleasant memories of a not-ready-for-prime-time, fly-by-night,
under-financed, company which over-sold a marginally-designed kitplane (but
that's a too long, dreary tale)...back to the problem with the pump...it
might be wonderful if we were using resin/hardener mix ratio of 45:100 parts
by volume.
As for recalibrating the moment arms for a 25:100 ratio or modifying the
pump in my shop or at the factory, my seemingly straight forward email
request for info from Michael Eng. has gone unanswered which fits the
pattern of previous postings which characterized the company as
non-responsive and un-helpful.

.it might be wonderful if we were using resin/hardener mix ratio of
45:100 parts by volume.
Which is why I bought their variable setting one in the first place.
Over the (deleted) years I've been building the plane the pump has
stayed accurate to within a couple of drops at each of my calibration
tests.
.. And I don't know what I'd have done without my pump. It's been
marvellous just being able to open the door of my temperature controlled
cupboard, clear the hardener nozzle of the inevitable crust and mix any
amount of resin I want at a minutes notice without any fuss.
