I have a unused Rocky Mountain Encoder with Remote Compass for Sale.
As I have now fitted an EFIS to my panel the Encoder is surplus and an
overkill. Triple redundancy for VFR flight is probably 'over the top'!
The Unit was factory Built and calibrated and includes Remote Compass Unit
& OAT and associated Wiring. All Manuals and Documentation included.
The Factory price is $1479.00 US. I'm asking $1000.00 or 625
If anyone is interested give me a call on +44 1761 433073 or +44 7808 402404

Ralph,
I built a frame from original drawing, but found dimensions
wrong because my Classic Fuze had an :XS" cockpit stuck in it - but presume
you are all 'aligned' as to model.
According to previous archive and my experience the minimum bolt
size must be 3/8" or greater because the weight drags the holes and tears
develop in skin, particularly at back. Either plaster 1/4" or better plywood
or similar backing onto the interior wall or use increased size tubing to
support the raw holes to prevent ripping. Suggest check through archives if
not already done. I did three things - [1] epoxied support plates into
interior walls per above, [2]drilled corners to take heavy castors, and [3]
drilled and tapped for 1/2"x13tpi threaded rod plus hardware so I could
screw rod down to floor, lifting castors, and so firm up a horizontal frame
for rigging various parts which demand alignment (rear pitch axle, wing
mounts etc).
Good luck
Ferg

Last night at our pilots association meeting the program was a demonstration
of a home computer program the is terrific. It does the best job of flight
planning I have ever seen. Look at it free for 21 day with a CD of a
download at http://www.seattleavionics.com/default.asp
They were at Oshkosh this summer and really caught on. Sorry for the
majority of you flyers in other places, only USA and Canada.
The price quoted last night was 1/2 off.

Hi Steve
I obtained some 2 inch aluminium angle , this fits perfectly between the two
central ribs uptight to the central spar, this was tapped to take a screw
eye for the tie down,
the screw eye is remove for flight, and a small plastic plug to seal the
opening in the lower wing is used, I used two extra plies of uni between
the lower wing skin and the ali angle, with two plies above to the central
ribs
very little extra weight is added for the security of decent tie downs,

Hi Steve,
I used heavy duty aluminium eyebolts with 8mm threaded bolt from a Chandlers
shop , where
they sell all kinds of goodies for boating people.
I installed mine near the inspection hatches and one in the tail. But if I
had to do it again I would
get two outboard ribs from Europa to make a double last rib, then install a
U-shaped stainless
steel or alu bracket between the ribs, well secured with bid layups, and
attach it to that bracket
with just the 'eye' poking out the bottom. Don't attach them to the spars.
Should have been part of the kit, as the cost is peanuts, and is an
essential item.
I see other Europa owners tying down on the flap brackets, which is not a
good idea. The
forces of a strong sidewind are least at the wing tips. Don't forget PFA
approval.
Cheers, Karl

Hi Cliff,
I've checked out the software and it does seem rather nice. It also appears
reasonably priced at $198/US with updates every 28 days and yearly subscription
for these updates at $99/year/US.
Question? Do you have a coupon code to share? What sort of price break does
it offer you?

Hi all,
I am in the process of installing the hoses from the oil tank to the
engine on my 914. It occurred to me that steel braided hose such as
Aeroquip 666 would do well in the high heat environment, however the
barbs on the oil tank are 12 mm not 1/2".
Any idea where I can get a hose like this with 12 mm bore? Anyone have
any best practices to share out installing these oil lines as far as
heat protection, routing or hose type is concerned.
Thanks, Paul

Subject: | 914 Fuel Pressure Tranducer |
--> Europa-List message posted by: "Steve Hagar" <hagargs@earthlink.net>
Lately now every day is a new adventure. I have started doing electrical
busses and engine instruments. The Rocky Mountain micromonitor that I am
using comes with a nice
VDO fuel pressure transducer that looks like the oil pressure tranducer
that comes with the engine. The port is a 1/8 NPT. While fretting over
having to a "T" into my nicely configured aircraft fitting configured fuel
line with some barbed fittings I noted that my mini-Andair gascolator under
the baggage bay has a: Low and behold! extra 1/8 NPT fitting on the top of
it! Just the thing to plug the pressure transducer into, I believe that is.
Is this port on the gascolator subject to the full fuel pressure? It is
downstream of both pumps. I would note that the pressure here under the
baggage bay next to the pumps is going to be quantitatively higher (head
losses)than at the fuel pressure regulator. However for monitoring purposes
this would offer preflight checks as to the integrety of each pump and well
as if a pump is starting to get flakey by delivering erratic pressure.
What positions have others put the fuel pressure sender in?
Is any one going to the Copperstate Fly in Next Week. If so look me up I'm
in the neighborhood.

them on Monday for the same deal. Tell them you heard it from me, bragging

Paul:
The metric hose fitting are a real pain in the butt. I just finished this
recently. I'tell you what I did however I don't know if it will be the hot
setup (or cold setup depending on your outlook}. On the oil line on the
bottom of the engine I didn't route it as noted in the book. I rotated the
banjo connection around so the line came up around the port side instead
of being bunched together under the cylinders with the other line. I
installed an aluminized corregated insulated heat shield tubing around
this oil line. The aluminum reflects the radiant heat. The tubing is 1.5"
in diameter and squishes where need be. The extra diameter gives a good
air gap between the outside of the stock oil line and the inside of the
insulation tube. I got this stuff from the guys over at Phoenix Composits.
I believe it is either the Thermoflex or Thermosleeve that is in the
exhaust insulating section of the Spruce catalog. They are building a
Europa using this stuff. The length I used was from the banjo bolt to
where the line goes through the engine mount ring. The large oil line from
the oil pump is routed as instructed and coverd with this insulation where
it passes under the cylinders. It is safety wired in place so it doesn't
move around. The turbo return oil line is routed differently than
instructed. I used the braided line as supplied in the FF kit as fuel
line. This was passed up over the front of the engine and clamped with an
Adel clamp to a prop gearbox mount bolt. This was then routed over the top
of the cylinders in the cool air flow before the air flows down through the
fins.
The oil tank vent line is also the steel braided gas line. I routed this
down to the air box so the air filter supposedly picks up the oil mist.
The line to the heat exchanger is the normal supplied oil line routed
strait down. I also made 2 stainless steel sheet shielding fins down
below. These are attached to the 2 side mounts for the heat exchanger duct.
The left one is between the back of the muffler and where the 2 hoses go
into the heat exchangers and the right one is behind the turbocharger and
in front of the other 2 hoses.

Steve,
The rotax install manual suggests that you get a second banjo fitting and a
longer bolt. They recommend that this be put inline with the hose going off
to the carburetor and to put the pressure transducer on the end of the
second banjo.
Can you tell me the VDO part number that is on your transducer as I need to
purchase one as well.

I fitted the wing to the fuselage for the first time today. It really
gets exciting when you are seeing progress. I have a question for you
"old salts" that have been there before. After I pinned the wings onto
the fuse, I have a 1/2" gap on one wing and 3/4" on the other. The
front pins "just' touch the fuse and the rear pins are at least 3/8"
away from the fuse. Since the inside pip pins are right on....I can't
quite figure out what is wrong. Has anyone else had this problem, and if
so what's the fix? OR any guidance will be appreciated.
BYW......I will be at Copperstate fly in next weekend also.

"Steve,
The rotax install manual suggests that you get a second banjo fitting and a
longer bolt. They recommend that this be put inline with the hose going off
to the carburetor and to put the pressure transducer on the end of the
second banjo.
Can you tell me the VDO part number that is on your transducer as I need to
purchase one as well. Paul"
Lads,
I am in the process of specifying the details of my 914 order. I
note that because we are talking Austrian, some fittings are metric. I am
using 3/8" alu tubing [-6] and wonder if I can transfer to metric easily, or
if I can specify oiltank, fuel lines and any other fitting to be -6
qualified?
All comers welcome.

Is a pressure transducer necessary or would a pressure switch be better
in this case?
It's not the sort of thing that you need to monitor constantly but it'd
be good to know when the pressure drops below optimum.

>> On the oil line on the
bottom of the engine I didn't route it as noted in the book. I rotated
the
banjo connection around so the line came up around the port side
instead
of being bunched together under the cylinders with the other line.
Great minds think alike. I did the same and ended up with a really tidy
installation. My tame LAME took one look at my installation and went
back and remodelled the oil system on another Europa he had in for a 100
hour check.
I used firesleeve over that particular hose but have also replaced all
of the oil hoses with a high temp racing hose that Kim Prout helped me
buy in Ontario CA.

Did you verify the wing sweep when installing the fore and aft wing pin
sockets??
