      Rob;

We all make choices in our lives.

If I have a fire in the engine compartment, the TCU will be way down on my list
      of
      things to worry about.

Perhaps you are missing the point! If the TCU is not of a fire resistant
construction - that means from inside out as well as outside in. That would
put a burning TCU close to all the fuel lines because the wiring looms are
not very long. Furthermore, forward of the firewall prevents the
application of a cabin stored hand extinguisher.

      regards,

      Mike

However, the TCU is a sealed metal box -- not enough oxygen inside to sustain combustion.
Even if it weren't metal, in the event of a fault, the 5A fuse should
pop before enough heat is generated to self-combust. I understand that's
one reason consumer electronics devices in our homes are not fire hazards at even
117VAC on a 20A line, if fused or otherwise protected internally per industry
      standards.

      Regards,
      Fred F.

      Hi Jim,
To add to you comments regarding the TCU. I have yet to install a TCU
inside of the firewall. Generally there is not enough room and cables not
long enough. With the airbox and blast tube, the Rotax Factory Rep found it
very satisfactory. You must have the airbox however.
