When you visit the plane you should be accompanied by a fellow
builder/owner.
It is hard to find A&Ps that know anything about fiberglass. The trick in
the Europa
is that much of the structural work is inacessible once complete so what
you have to
go on is photos during contruction and the quality of the non-hidden
workmanship.
I would also think that many hours of flying (>50) is somewhat reassuring.

Hi all,
I am considering the purchase of a pre-built and
currently flying Europa XS. I was curious if there are
any "gotchas" I should look out for, and if you have any idea what
kind of support I might expect from the company and possibly
builders/owners here in the US (northeast).
Any comments or suggestions are welcome.
Thanks,

Subject: | Trigear bearing spacers |
--> Europa-List message posted by: TELEDYNMCS@aol.com
Greetings all,
After a busy fall with our glider tow operation I'm finally getting back to
my Europa. It's time for it to come out of the cradle and stand on it's own.
I've found what I believe is an error in the manual.
Regarding the main gear, my manual mentions using bearing spacers, but
doesn't say what the part number is. The nose gear refers to them as "Euro 14",
although elsewhere it refers to them as W-14. I have 2, W-14's, but no "Euro 14's.
The nose gear appears to take two, one each on the outside of the bearing to
hold it in place. The drawing for the main gear just shows "bearing spacer"
(handwritten on the drawing) but doesn't give the part number. Either way I'm
probably short 2. Does anybody know the story here?
Also, my manual doesn't give a part number for the bolt used for the nose
gear axle. Does anybody know the part number for this?
Thanks in advance!

Hi! John.
I think that you'll find the inboard spacer on both maingear wheel bearings
is the brake /bush assembly. Therefore if I recall correctly there isn't a
separate bush (or if there is a specially dedicated spacer then there is
only one each side.) since the wheel nut and washer serves as the outer
spacer.
Sounds like you may already have set the toe in , but if not, IMHO the "toe
in" setting needs to allow for a bigger change when the 'plane is loaded.
For instance it would be better set with the unuseable fuel ,engine oils and
if applicable also coolant and a light weight pilot and wings fitted
supported by the fuselage, so that when fully loaded the "toe in" is least
possible or at least less than the manual says? Anyone like to comment?
My a/c is currently on the 3rd set of main gear tyres and already they are
half worn out. (Only approx 450 hours and lots of long flights in that too!
IMHO there is a distinct possibility that an "adjustable" mod. could be
developed.

Bob Harrison G-PTAG Europa MKI/Jabiru 3300.

I have re-christened the header for this subject to avoid being accused of prejudice
against our noble 'working' members. Indeed! I must confess to getting my
hands soiled occasionally, even now.
From the Flyer the alternative 'free' landing airfields for November are:-
1. Bodmin.
2. Bourne.
3. Sherburn-in-Elmet.
4. Tatenhill.
Bodmin could be a longish stretch for a winters day for some. Tatenhill has no
clubhouse as I recall. So it would be a choice between Bourne and Sherburn.
Personally I would prefer Bourne for our first shot because of it's central position
to many people.
Any further views are welcome.
Best regards. Bryan Allsop

Sorry about the 'retired' bit, it seems to have bothered others. No, you do
not need to be retired, you just need to be Europa equiped.
I was thinking about myself ,I'm afraid, and how to get some purposefull
flying into the months when nothing else seems to be happening. Please join
in.

Hi!All
Cark isn't closed for fly in .... I've just checked the Parachute home
number is 01229 889516 Week day number is
01539958672. My Friend is Peter Spinks his number is 01539 448290 If
numbers are involved he would probably hire a people carrier or even a taxi
if he was fully re-imbursed.
The field frequency is 129.90 air to ground but the parachute guys will
probably answer and advise the status of the JUMP in progress. Needless to
say keep clear until advised. I think the runway is 06/24. Tarmac but
displaced at both ends with some loose tarmac and gravel.

--> Europa-List message posted by: "John & Amy Eckel" <eckel1@comcast.net>
Hello John.
Issue 36, Page 11 has some info on the tri-gear. They refer to pg 29-18,
but in my book it is 27T-15, issue 2. The correction states that the torque
value given
should be 100 lb ins, not 50 lb ins. It also says there is no spacer. The
inner bearing will
butt against the tube of the brake torque plate MG02. My page does not
show a spacer.
Pg 29T-17, issue 1 of my manual shows a part EUR014 and I do have them. I
also have
a part # M12X170 which is a 12mm x 170mm Cap head bolt ( needs and allen
wrench).
It appears to be the right part because it fits the NG06 spacers.
Thanks for the question, making me look this up now will save me work later.
As an aside, I had my larger parts in boxes and would have to search each
box to
find a part, real time waiter. One day I sat down and pored each box on the
floor
and put each part number into a spread sheet and alphabetized them. I put
the parts in
small boxes with a list for that box. Now when I need a part I go to each
box and
look at the list. This has saved mucho time. FWIW

For Mike G:
The simplest pip pin cover is Tessa Tape - as used by the gliding fraternity to
seal aileron joints, etc. I also use it to seal my speed kit fairings, and the
wing/fuselage joint. Very tidy, very quick, and leaves no significant mark when
removed. AFE at Kidlington, amongst others, can supply.
For Bryan A:
Count me in - and put our airfield here (Shobdon) on the "must visit" list.

Or, Pilot magazine has free landings at:
Andrewsfield, Eaglescott, Lashenden, Sandtoft, Le Touquet and Weston,
Ireland
for November.
Three of those (A, L and Le T) could be done in a day!

Two errors in my last post.
The "Issue 36" is the Europa News the company puts out.
The page "27T-15" I refer to is 29T-15
John, A230
Once I thought I made and mistake, but I found I was wrong.

Europa Club members get that spreadsheet (all [monowheel] airframe
parts) plus a cross-reference to all [monowheel] manual pages on the
CD-ROM when they join.

I agree with that!

Graham Higgins tried to make this posting, but sent it to the
now-defunct Europa Forum address. We have a basket in place there to
catch the occasional error like this, but not for much longer!
Graham, and anyone else who might still have
<forum@europaclub.org.uk> in your address book, please delete that
entry now!

Ok folks! Lets put flesh on the bones.
I like David's idea of selecting the next organiser at each fly-in. As he says,
the task is not a demanding one, and it will bring a fresh outlook to each venue.
Bob clearly has ideas to explore, that is good, and I have no doubt that Cark will
soon be the venue. Meanwhile, I am proposing that we have a shot at Bourne
for 12noon (local) next wednesday 12th.Nov. This will give us a chance to have
a good chat, a snack, and still be home before dark.
Even if only a handfull of us make it, it will still be very worthwhile. Hopefully
a few more will turn up. My forcaster is suggesting an average to good day
for aviating on Wednesday.
Bryan A, (Looks like I wil have to start buying the Pilot mag).

That sounds like a very good idea, Brian. You can certainly include me.
Best wishes,
William
