Bryan,
the last few times that I have been to Bourne (admitted not for about a
year) there were no snack facilities, and during the week we had to make
drinks ourselves. (Unfortunately I will probably not be available this
coming Wednesday).
Dave Watts.
P.S. You should also get Todays Pilot magazine as they do free landings plus
free lunch vouchers, although the current issue does not contain any.

Cark will soon be the venue. Meanwhile, I am proposing that we have a shot
at Bourne for 12noon (local) next wednesday 12th.Nov. This will give us a
chance to have a good chat, a snack, and still be home before dark.
> Even if only a handfull of us make it, it will still be very worthwhile.
Hopefully a few more will turn up. My forcaster is suggesting an average to
good day for aviating on Wednesday.

Curious what others have used for a spar guide for the port and starboard spars?
I would assume that there is a lot of twisting pressure while flying. Also how
did you attach it? With redux or bolt in.

Hi! Alan.
I have used the 1/2" Avdel pip pins through both seat backs and packed them
forward with packing washers so the pip pin balls just lock. That way the
spars must stay snug in place. Also for ease of one man rigging I have made
"engagement ramps" on the starboard seat back socket(which receives the port
spar tip) by welding and extending the entrances to the socket with 1"
ANGLE MATERIAL of similar gauge material wich are also reduxed to the seat
bulkhead.
This ensures that the port spa has to engage the starboard socket by holding
the wing tip aft for the spa to pivot forwards as it is pushed home over the
wear strip at the bottom ledge of the access hole in the fuselage on the
port side.
This also presumes that you have installed the "cuff" around the port spa to
receive the starboard spa.
Hope you understand this? if not call my land line on 0044 1472 852498.

Subject: | OIl pressure at Start |
--> Europa-List message posted by: DJA727@aol.com
The weather has recently turned from summer to winter here (in about 12
hours!). I have made two starts and flights during the cold weather and noticed
a
strange oil pressure reading. At start, the oil pressure comes up normally to
about 60. Then, in the first 3 to 4 minutes, it slowly decreases -- in one case
to about 20 and in the other case to about 38. The 20 case was colder weather
than the 38. When I am about to turn around and taxi back in, the oil
pressure starts to rise and in about 30 seconds it returns to the normal 55 to
60
psi.
After the first time, I let the engine cool after flight to about 100 degrees
F oil temp and did a restart. In that case, the oil pressure comes up to
normal 55 to 60 and just stays there.
I am not sure if this is something that has been going on all along and I
just noticed it, or a new problem or even a problem at all. It seems to be
temperature related and acts like a sticking or a slow oil pressure control valve.
Does anybody have any experience with this sort of thing?
Thanks,
Dave

Dave,
What engine?
It may be that cold oil slows the output until it reaches the
heating area and then once through, resumes normal readings. this is true
for every engine in which Start is not preceded by pre-oil or preheat
circulation.
In some engines, (PW wasp on harvard) a cutoff valve shorts the
radiator until the engine oil shows temp, then it is released to let cold
oil pass through the engine - IF memory serves.

What a great idea. I've wound down and only doing two days a
week.....usually Tuesdays and Wednesdays, so give me a ring when you next
plan a trip. Or better still, why not fly into Bidford-on-Avon and have
cuppa or a bite of lunch. I could email details if needed.

I had oil pressure swings at one time, for no apparent reason, while in flight,
and
also on the ground. However the swings were in the normal temperatures here in
Fl.
which is in the mid 90's most of the time.
I replaced the oil pressure sender, which solved my problem.

I'm using the EGT probes supplied by Grand Rapids Technology with their EIS. They
just screw into the

Sure - mention 10712 on G-EZZA. Approved, executed and signed-off.
Unfortunately Francis approved it for This A/C Only - but if you can
convince him otherwise you're welcome to a copy and a set of plumbing bits
for making the fittings - I've got loads of spares.

I'm sure there are numerous simple designs for pip pin covers. Mine centres
around a plastic plumbing pipe screwed end with mating plug.
If any have actually been approved by the PFA I can refer to same on my
application so I would appreciate receiving detail of such.
Incidentally do club modifications which have been cleared still require
notifying to the PFA?

Subject: Re: Europa-List: filler
Jeremy,
My standard mix was 17ml of epoxy (which was 19g or 1 pump of the Michael
Engineering resin pump) + 15ml of fume silica (Aerosil) + 17ml of Q-cell +
120ml of Expancel.
The Expancel was measured in a cup of known capacity with the 'powder'
lightly packed in to the cup; this light compaction was merely to remove
large air voids between the clumps of raw Expancel.
This mixes up like 'breadcrumbs' and looks too dry to go on. But if the
mixing process is energetically extended there comes a point where the whole
lot seems to suddenly plasticise into a doughy consistency.
The problem with all this is that there is no specific lexicon to describe
what is happening; hence adjectives borrowed from the baking industry!.
The mix has a density of 0.316g/cc, which is lighter than Superfill's 0.44
g/cc. But still ten times heavier than blue foam! In case you are tempted to
let your final primer-filler do the filling, the latter weighs 2.1g/cc.
I would not go with such a light mix again. Try leaving out the Q-cell as a
start. There were times when I thought I could push this mix leaner, only to
come unstuck on one occasion resulting in stripping the filler off and
starting again. Also, with the ultra lean mixes, the homogenisation of the
mix (despite appearances and mixing for ages) is not always perfect,
resulting in some dry spots that wouldn't harden properly.
Another thing is that the lightweight filler scratches quite easily when
sanded. Those scratches are then by default filled with primer-filler, which
is much heavier than even epoxy. So might as well add some extra epoxy into
the filler to start with!
So I reckon the above recipe is as lean as you can go.
One other thing you may find useful, when sanding hte above mix, the
underlying substrate becomes just visible when the filler is 1/4 mm thick.
Hope this helps.
Duncan.
PS publish this if you think it may help others.

I am thinking pretty hard about mounting and leaving the base with the 4 holes
mounted on top of the skin and just fill so things are flush.
So the servo would be painted and in the slip stream.
Planning on mounting between the mass balance arms, and actuating a piece of

The servo is to be mounted on the bottom of the aileron, with the horn coming out
the bottom. I am thinking about flush mounting servo to bottom of aileron.

It is the 914 engine. There is a several second delay before the oil pressure
reads, then it looks completely normal, until after a few minutes it heads
down slowly and steadily. I am not really sure what is going on here. I have
never seen an engine do this before. I am tempted to remove the pressure
regulating valve and clean it in case it may somehow sticking.

That is one possibility - a bad sensor. I will be keeping a close eye on this
to see of there is any pattern for the problem.

Wow, congratulations! Only two years? That's inspiring.
Keep us posted about the test flying.
