--> Europa-List message posted by: "William Mills" <combined.merchants@virgin.net> David, You are quite right. It was not intentional, but I suppose I was thinking east / west and the pilots who have been attending of late. Sheffield is a bit further North, or even Eshott, but I don't think the Southerners could make Eshott return in a day in comfort. Perhaps when the days get longer. Are there enough flying Europas in the north to make up a Northern Fly-in Group? Best wishes, William Do not archive ----- Original Message ----- From: "David Barraclough" <David@dbarraclough.com> Subject: Re: Europa-List: "drop of the hat" fly out - Connington > --> Europa-List message posted by: "David Barraclough" <David@dbarraclough.com> > > Since when has POPHAM been more CENTRAL!!!!!!!!!! > There are Europa flyers north of Watford Gap you know! > > DB

The Met Office forecast for yesterday the 3/12/03 was almost as we found it, solid overcast above 1.5 to 2K and very flyable, and ended with the comment, "little or no change " over the next 24hrs. Where did todays wall to wall sunshine come from?? Never mind, I am sure that all of us that made it had an enjoyable time and a good laugh. It was suggested that perhaps Paddy Clark might like to pick up the batton for the next meet. (sorry mate). Regards and Safe Flying Tony

--> Europa-List message posted by: Jos Okhuijsen <josok-e@ukolo.fi> Hi Stephan, Another list for non building related messages? Please not. Although i can only dream about making a "friday" trip to Sloan or whatever place the fly- ins are held, it is nice dreaming, while gluing the parts together. The writers and readers of the forum are a mix of builders and those lucky b#%&s who are allready flying. That ensures that there is a marvellous feedback, both technically and socially. We should not try to limit the chatter in this family in any way, nor try to separate. The list, as it works now, even with the non-building noise is not a heavy one. Some 15 messages a day at max should not be a problem for any reasonably up to date system. What about hitting the DEL button for those you don't think to ever need in the future? Being able to throw away is a value. Missing out is not. Just my 10 cnts. do not archive Jos Okhuijsen.

I can understand that those who are still building may view the fliers as being "another race". I can assure them that is not true! If the fliers (ex builders in the main) have to be booted off onto another site, builders are likely to miss some useful contributions. If we were to follow the argument further, should we have a separate site for 914 owners who seem to speak a language of their own. Perhaps trike builders should be separated too. Surely the fact that each e-mail is clearly titled is sufficient to enable members to select those mailings they wish to read. Personally I do not read the mail that does not interest me. Some would criticise me for that no doubt, but live and let live. Indeed there may be builders out there who want to see the fliers using the list for what it was intended, communication between us Europa enthusiasts. The fact is that builders are reading fliers mail, and are turning up at Fly-ins in alternative transport. Are you suggesting that this is wrong? One of the culprits.......... --> Europa-List message posted by: Gerry Holland <gnholland@onetel.com> Why have we suddenly got an undercurrent of dissent because Flyers are using the Europa Forum to communicate. I am fortunate enough to be building still, I'm also fortunate enough to have several completed Europa's in my area with whom I fly whenever there is the chance. The interesting fact is that ALL or most of the the Flyers are still adding too or changing what was previously built. They also 'maintain'. Cliff Shaw who made comment on this supposed aggravation on flying matters had until recently flown his Monowheel is now changing it to a Trigear. Is that building or rebuilding or what! So which Forum would he subscribe too? There is enough crap in every day normal e-mails and we deal with that by using delete key as required or spam filter. The Europa Forum very rarely covers subjects that veer away from EUROPA'S. So what is the problem. The simple answer is to ensure that the 'subject' is more precise to the content of the mail note thus allowing those who find the 'flying communication' irksome some latitude to delete without reading. Really! As someone mused, each chapter of the build manual will have a Forum if we are not careful. Fly, Build, Dream. Just bloody enjoy and and find the delete button. It's a good idea eh? And maybe some visitor would be very interested to know if and when you would have such a session. Like i spent a month in Naples, FL and would have enjoyed a fly-in there! Jos

Subject: Rumblings of decention in the camp!
--> Europa-List message posted by: "R.C.Harrison" <ptag.dev@ukonline.co.uk> Hi! Guys. On the question of suitability of our Fly In escapades and the nuisance value of such postings, please consider my circumstances of having a different engine to the masses and the need for me to subscribe to the Sonex Jabiru engine forum also. That forum has as many postings , probably twice over the Europa Forum and I personally find it interesting to read and try to help others with technical problems without them "reinventing the wheel". We not too long ago heard calls for those out of the morass of build matters to spare a thought for those following and provide encouragement to the builders to press on. Sorry chaps perhaps the word to have used was "MOTIVATION" . Methinks we have provided the best incentive possible ..... that of demonstrating that it is all worth the hassle of building in the end, stop bloody moaning and "get your fingers out" to join us. My problem now is which damn "fly in" group will I attend ? Especially since "Chaiman " Allsop seems to have started a secondary group. If he had been at the last "Connington " trip he would know how close my suggestion came to voting Duncan to take over the "mantle" of Organiser by rotation! Hopefully Paddy will assume the Weekly organisers crown as voted and advise the best plan of action. If I don't fly this next week I'll have wasted the Sheffield, Beccles and Old Sarum voucher options which I have left in the my Flyer copy. Alternatively anyone want me to send them the Beccles and Old Sarum vouchers let me know because I'll be in Savannah on the 17th through 4th Jan. singing "Moon River"!. I'm intending using the Sheffield voucher myself between now and the 17th anyway. "Come on now settle down chaps!" I had another local flight over the Humber Bridge today anyway. Excellent visibility above the density layer at 1200ft level eat your hearts out ! Regards Bob Harrison Europa MKI/Jabiru 3300 (450 hours and Climbing!) Don't archive! (not interesting enough!)

I get as much help, if not more, from flyers than fellow builders. It is easy to tell if the message is pertenant to your interests by just looking at the subject line, providing we all try to keep the subject line pure to content. Subject: Question for those who have been there before
--> Europa-List message posted by: "Steve Hagar" <hagargs@earthlink.net> The beast is going to get rolled out into the driveway this weekend for several undertakings. The wings are going to be inserted and the length of the outriggers set and outriggers installed. Up until now the wings have only been installed with the fuselage in its cradle never on its own wheels. I am also going to put gasoline in the tank and turn on the 2 electric fuel pumps. Checking for leaks and proper operation etc. Better to leak and burn outside the house rather than inside. Lastly putting the mil connectors on the wings to fire up the strobes and nav lights. For those who have been there before, any Faux pas to look out for (especially with the gasoline?) Thanks buds Steve A143 Mesa, AZ --- Steve Hagar --- hagargs@earthlink.net

    Subject: Clear on Plastics
--> Europa-List message posted by: "Ronald J. Parigoris" <rparigor@suffolk.lib.ny.us> For what its worth. I purchased some 3 and 4 mil clear plastic from Home depot, perhaps a 3 months ago for laying up on. Ran out and picked up some more. The new stuff carried by Home Depot on long Island New York now has a release agent on it! Instead of being perfectly clear, it has a slight opaque color to it. If you aggressively rub your fingers on it, you can feel it. All their stock now has the release agent on it. Perhaps it is not an issue, but since i don't know if there is a chance or not of it making its way onto my lay-up, i will not use the stuff with release agent on it. I have heard of folk laying up on wax paper, did not like that idea. Anybody know with reasonable certainty if laying up on plastic with release agent, or laying up on wax paper can affect future lay-ups, or trying to paint or fill ontop? Ron Parigoris

--> Europa-List message posted by: "Michael Grass" <M.Grass@comcast.net> Hi all, I just started to built and I enjoy it much. I am honest to say that I am not (yet) interested in the non building related posting. But I do understand that a lot of the flying builders have a huge advantage in respect of building knowledge. This means that there are representing a huge resource for answering questions. In order to help both sides, I would suggest that all Fly in related messages may start in their subject line like this: !!!Fly-In!!! . All of us builders who do not won't to get to much frustrated about all those fly ins missed, because the aircraft is still not done, could then set a filter in the message rules in the tools setting with the instruction to delete this message containing "!!!Fly-In!!!" in their subject line. I do think the idea of the "do not archive" statement in the body of the text has the main purpose to not fill mats server with information which will be obsolete in a few days. Just my thought.
