It is the same cloth used on Long EZs, CoZs etc. In fact it's made in
Germany by Uniglas, their cloth #92125, 2X2 twill,(for drape)
Weight from memory is about 250 gms/sq meter.
Don't be tempted to guess that a look alike will be OK. The "sizing" is
critical, (surface treatment) resin won't bond unless it's correct. Also,
don't use cloth that has been exposed to moisture.

I had trouble with this. Pins 13 and 26 on the TCU are the Tacho output. I
have feed TCU pin 26 to pin 2 on the Rotax Tacho and TCU pin 13 to Rotax
Tacho Pin 3 (Rotax Tacho Pin 1 is +12V). TCU Pin 26 is also connected (in
parallel) to pin 5 on the EIS . Both the Rotax tacho and the EIS appear to
display RPM OK.
Your note had me scanning the circuit diagrams I had produced to find that
they were not a perfect record of what I had done. So I had to spend a few
minutes to pull the panel off (again).

Hi all,
I was wondering if someone out there who has connected an EIS to a 914 can
help with the tachometer connection. The Grand Rapids manual show a generic
912/914 connection, however when looking in the 914 installation manual it
shows two wires from the TCU for the tachometer. Is this what is used for
the EIS or is it done differently. ?
Thanks, Paul

--> Europa-List message posted by: Jan de Jong <jan.de.jong@xs4all.nl>
Hallo,
I'm applying the TP5-TP6 tube connection mod. As a result the pip pin
pips will operate against bid and not directly against the TP6 metal -
unless I bare a well located area of TP6 now, before bonding the tube
into TP2.
I wonder if someone would know something about pip pins and how the
nature of the ramp the pips work against might influence retention of
the pins. I could imagine some ratcheting action if the ramp were shaped
just so.
Most likely I worry too much though.
Thanks for any contribution.

A philosophical question if I may.
A little while ago I read about the necessity of adjusting an AoA
indication for the extension of flaps. I don't think that is correct.
Extension of flaps decreases the AoA of the remaining fixed wing area
because the flaps take over a large portion of the heavy lifting. Why
compensate the indication for this real and desired result? Am I missing
something?

I know there has been much discussion about positioning batteries and many are
opting for the firewall. Has anyone positioned a battery here in combination
with a 914/airmaster CS prop. It has been suggested to us that the additionaa
wight of the prop will lead to C of G problems. We are however putting a 12 lb
BMA EFIS-1 processor behind the Baggage bay.

Jan - have you tried pushing the "pip" back into the pin? On mine
there seems to be no force I can apply that will cause them to
retract - it's a one-way mechanism, and in fact that is the whole
point of its design. Considering the shape of the pips (spherical),
if the internal mechanism was not designed to be irreversible, the
ramping effect you're imagining could even occur against the edge of
a perfectly-formed hole in a flat steel surface. Thus, I think your
worry is needless.
However, it _is_ important to ensure that the pips do actually emerge
on the bottom side of the tube far enough for them to to operate.
You'll know when it's right as the pin makes a satisfying clonk (not
quite as loud as the outrigger!) when the pips come out the far side
and the actuating plunger moves to its rest position.
regards
Rowland

Thank you very much Rowland.
I'm not at my brightest today. I can see that you are quite right.
Somehow I had imagined the spring action pushing the pips instead of the
pips on/off actuation.
Carrying on then...

Hi all,
As I get closer to finishing my 914 mono I am beginning to wonder how much it might
weigh in at. I got a download from Rowland and for the 19 aircraft he had
data on this is what they came in at.
Average 850.3
Min 782
Max 892
SD 35.8
Cheers, Paul

Sorry about the philosophical question.
I think I see where I went wrong (apart from the finger trouble just
now).
Flaps extension changes the lift versus angle properties of the wings
and requires a new calibration of lift coefficient versus measured angle
data (if lift coefficient is what one wants to indicate).
Stall approach warners are probably not affected though - fixed leading
edges should still stall at their characteristic angles, regardless of
flaps (but at a lower airspeed, with flaps).
Jan de Jong.
