Hi, Brian and Pat,
I am a satisfied user of the carb heat kit on my 912 mono - I cannot recommend
it highly enough. Mine was fitted as a retrofit, and my engine now never misses
a beat.
Good luck!

EGT probes. Mine came with the correct fitting for the Rotax boss.
Remember that the EGT sensor is a thermocouple and the probe is only the hot
junction. The cold junction is the other end of the steel braided wire. To
get reliable readings the cold junction wants to be located where it is not
subject to engine heating. I took mine through the fire wall and made the
connection beside the TCU.
Be very careful with any wire off cuts from the EIS. Being real mean I tend
to use any off cut which is long enough for the job and this caused me some
trouble. Some of the EIS wire is steel (not copper) to extend the
thermocouple. This has a small but finite resistance which, if used in
other circuits can cause trouble. I used a short length (about 18in) in my
strobe circuit and spent hours trying to work out why it worked but not
properly. Eventually I found that this length of wire had a resistance of
about 0.5 ohms. It did not stop the strobe from taking currant completely
but limited the peak currant. This allowed the strobe to flash but at the
wrong speed and pattern. We live and learn!
CHT I used the two, Grand Rapids supplied, thermocouple washers which fit
under bolts. I removed the Rotax sensors and replaced them with suitable
size stainless bolts. The Yellow cable which goes to these is steel.
Coolant Temp. I then obtained (From Skydrive the UK Rotax distributor) a
"T" which fits in the hose from Cylinder 2 to the header tank. The side arm
of this "T" is threaded for the sensor removed from the Rotax position in
the head. Don't forget that as the "T" is in the rubber pipe it will need a
separate earth connection (not my mistake this time but one reported to me).

Hi all,
I have a couple of questions regarding the engine sensors for the EIS.
EHT. The Rotax has a sleeves with a nipple welded onto each exhaust pipe,
however Grand Rapids supply a probe with a hose clip. Should I use this or
is there a sensor that fits into the nipple.
CHT. Rotax has a sensor on at the front of the engine, but Grand Rapids
supply two sensors that fits under the head bolts. What have people been
doing here.
Coolant temperature. Rotax provide no means for measuring this. The EIS
has a coolant input but no sensor supplied. I'd be interested in knowing
what folks have done. One thought was to re use this input as an air box
temperature input.
Thanks, Paul

Hi Al,
Ok, I've measured my actuator and I concur with what others have reported.
Full travel is 3 7/8" and the flaps full down is at 27.5 degrees according to my
digital level when clamped to the middle of the flap.

Yesterday's fly-in to Huddersfield was attended by three Europas (Roger Anderson,
Rick Morris and me with Paul Sweeting). If you get the chance to visit Huddersfield
they will make you most welcome in a very relaxed manner. As Roger
and Rick still have businesses to run, I was elected to arrange the next event
and before departing we selected Wolverhampton (Halfpenny Green) for the next
venue. The free landing voucher is in "Pilot" together with all the A/F details.
The Five Day Farming Forecast portrays another week of "unsettled weather", but
Thursday 8th looks like a possible window. I will check as the week progresses
and report again with up-dates.
Best wishes for a Happy and Prosperous New Year to you all,
William
