Finished with my aileron pushrod tubes over the weekend. The fit was pretty sloppy
between the ends and the tube, over .025 slop.
Neville suggested I smear in some Redux and partial pull the rivets, wait for cure
and then fully cure. I suppose that would work.
I understand that holding a precision size on tubes that are extruded is a hard
to
do thing.
I ended up biting the bullet and did what i thought a slick maneuver, made up some
sleeves. Worked great.
I sanded the OD of the end.
Bored a piece of aluminium to the OD of the end and bonded it with red locktight.
Then I held the end with a 6 jaw chuck and turned OD to the ID of pushrod tube
and
bonded with red locktight.
Perfect fit now.

I posted a while back about finding a release agent in powder form that is now
present on plastic sheeting that Home Depot and Lowes is selling. It ends up
they buy based on price. The MFG they now buy from uses "SLIP" in their MFG
process.
Slip I don't think is a very good thing to be laying up on.
If it says "Film Guard" on what you have, it has Slip used in MFG.
Some use more than others. I even purchased some Clear Plastic sheeting from
U-Line, but it now contains slip.
I am just about out of some Frost King clear plastic sheeting 10 feet by 25 feet
and 3 mil thick that uses no slip at all. They do not sell direct. They used to
sell to Home Depot, where I purchased it.
At the moment K-Mart is selling the 10 x 25 x 3mil Frost King. If you are going
to need any plastic I would go pick some up. It is pretty clear stuff.

I'm also considering a flap in the cold air NACA vent, being now convinced
that under cowl air etc temps. are sufficient to prevent carb icing.
However, the problem is that the walls of the vent are not vertically
parallel so that when the flap is trimmed to fit the floor of the duct (in
the open position) it is then too small to cover the duct in the closed
position; it leaves a large (c1/4") gap around the edges of the flap when
closed. Maybe some thin and flexible "wiper" material attached around the
edge of the flap would; but what?

Paul,
Apologies if this is hugely late for you (I've only 571 Forum emails left to
read...) but I highly recommend Vetretex on +44 (01275) 373377 for syringes,
mixing cups of various sizes, brushes, paper overalls, acetone... And they
deliver :-)
Cheers,
Jeremy

Hi,
Probably a silly question ... I have just purchased my electric scales
for measuring out my resin, and I am looking for syringes, can anyone in
the UK recommend a supplier or can point me in the direction of a store
where they might be sold? Also what sort of size is best?
Regards,
Paul

Hi All, Initial fitting of the air filter (K&N RU-0800) shows that the
filter interferes with the NACA intake. I read in one of the Europa
newsletters that we should simply cut back the vent with room for engine
movement. I think that might be kind of ugly and was wondering if others
might have overcome this misfit a bit more elegantly?
Thanks, Kevin

You don't actually notice it. All you need to do is cut back the lip a
little.

Still looking like Thursday, but not ideal. May have to fly round the odd
shower.

William
