      Hi! All
I had a good day flying yesterday in spite of Sheffield City Airport!
If you ever should want to go there be sure to have PPR'd them during which you
will find it is necessary to have faxed your full details for their records prior
      to you becoming "in bound".
Needless to say I left it out of my trips.
Alternatively I flew to Tattenhill past Nottingham and Derby which were closed
due to a huge fog bank creeping in a NE direction. Did a quick turnround to fly
back and the fog had gone!
Then took another flight round Spurn Point along the North bank of the Humber
to land at Mount Airey (showing signs of getting cut up it would be a shame for
the super grass strip to be spoilt with winter flying) back to Wickenby. then
another flight round Caistor and back with deteriorating weather from the North.
How did anyone else get on ?
      Regards
      Bob Harrison G-PTAG

As Europa pilots have supported the Alderney Fly-In well in the past,
The Europa Club now gets advance copies of the booking forms before
      the main mailing goes out.

      I'll send a soft-copies by e-mail in response to requests off-list
      via <memsec@europaclub.org.uk>.

You can find out more about the Alderney Fly-In on the Alderney
      Flying Club website <http://www.flyalderney.com>.

      regards

I think there is a Rotax distributor in Calif. called California Power
Systems, who handles Rotax parts. Here on the East coast we have Lockwood
Aviation at Sebring Fl. Their parts phone # is 863 655 5100. They have a
parts catalogue for all Rotax engines. There is a complete exploded view of
each engine with all the parts #'s listed. The 914 plugs are in the 3.00
      range??? or were.

Also go to web site Sparkplugs.com. They have Densco plugs at good prices.

First, beware - this scheme is untested (not yet flying).

I have cut a 1.5 inch square fixed flap (below a 2.0 inch diameter flange
ACS p/n 10350-8) for cabin heat. This as about as big as it can be and
still have some material left to attach the flange.

I recommend Lockwood Aviation in Sebring, FL at 1-800-527-6289. They are full service
Rotax stockists. For technical questions, ask to speak to the maintenance
department. They have a good catalog and have always given me excellent service.

I agree......Lockwood Aviation gives excellent parts service. Just this
morning I had to order a small 914 engine bracket that attaches the ignition
module to the block. I have a Rotax 914 service manual, but the manual
doesn't show part numbers. Simply by my describing the part, the Lockwood
guy was able to look up the part number on his computer screen, and will
ship the part to me today. Great service!

Does anyone know a source of Rotax exploded bill of materials with part
      number listings?

For those of you who have been asking.

Retractable tie downs, one loss and a win. I didn't put the set in the wings,
didn't meet my criteria, accessible and removable for repair. The tail tie
down is in and done. Accessible, removable, repairable, and most of all
retractable! I could see the parts in my head, but my hands wouldn't make em. Locked

them in the garage the other day and wouldn't let them out until it was done. I

may have to move the pivot hole, a bit close to the edge, but you'll get the
Idea. Its also the point to pull the mono on to the trailer.

The closest I have found is the 914 Maintenance Manual which can be
      downloaded from http://www.rotax-aircraft-engines.com/

There are detailed exploded views of everything in that manual, but no
actual part numbers (except for the special tools). The descriptions
together with mentioning the page and figure numbers should be sufficient
for telling the Rotax folks what you need.

Hi Steve, I cant get the link to work so cant view your retract tail tie
      down.

I bought a AN eyebolt to replace the tailspring bolt. A small stainless
carabiner from a paraglider harness, that I plan to keep in the plane, hooks
in to the eyebolt for whatever tiedown to attach to. No extra work! Not
retractable, but not much worse than the regular bolt head.

Does anyone have a way to tie down from the outriggers, with fairings? I was
thinking of a metal (SS) tang that protruded out of the fairing, bolted to
the outrigger assembly. Again, not retractable.

Just finished trimming the flap drive hole fairings on the bottom of the
flaps. Thanks, Paul McA, for the idea. Looks clean, like maybe a tiny drag
      reduction..

For those of you who have been asking.

Retractable tie downs, one loss and a win. I didn't put the set in the
      wings,
didn't meet my criteria, accessible and removable for repair. The tail tie
down is in and done. Accessible, removable, repairable, and most of all
retractable! I could see the parts in my head, but my hands wouldn't make
      em. Locked
them in the garage the other day and wouldn't let them out until it was
      done. I
may have to move the pivot hole, a bit close to the edge, but you'll get the
Idea. Its also the point to pull the mono on to the trailer.

After 4 years in the build, Paul Peregrym's beautiful XS Mono, C-GPHP, left
the surly bonds of earth for the first time today (January 19, 2004). The 30
min. flight took place at Abbotsford airport piloted by Peter Timm in cool,
      calm weather.

The aircraft flies like a dream and displayed the well known, excellent
Europa handling characteristics. Before the next flight, Paul plans to back
up the turnbuckles on the tail wheel springs because tracking after touch
down was a bit squirrelly. Also exhaust fumes in the cockpit will need to
be addressed. Otherwise, there were no bad tendencies to report.

Named 'Snowgoose', Paul's plane has a decal of it's namesake decorating fin
and rudder designed by wife, Hazel and looks as sharp as it flies. Paul has
produced a first class airplane and it was a privilege to be invited to
perform the first flight honors. We wish him many rewarding flying hours
      ahead.

I was thinking of buying a cobalt drill for the purpose, but I am wondering what

      Paul,

After trying a masonry bit as suggested in the manual with limited
success, like Cliff, I too found that a good quality HS drill bit worked
Ok. Keep the drill bit cool and run it at a fairly medium to slow pace.
Suggest you do it in a drill press too.
